As Memorial Day comes around, it's good to remember what the day is really about. It’s not just the start of summer or a time for big sales. This is a day to honor the brave men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military. Their sacrifices are why we get to enjoy so many freedoms every day. So, how can we keep the spirit of Memorial Day alive in our everyday lives? It can be as simple as taking a quiet moment to think about those who gave their lives, doing something to help someone in need, or just saying thanks to someone who’s served. These little things mean a lot and help us keep their memories alive. Memorial Day also encourages us to be like those we're remembering—selfless and brave. We can do that by helping out in our community, standing up for what's right or making a move for our future that we were afraid to do. By living out these values, we honor their legacy and make a positive difference just like they did. Have a meaningful and memorable Memorial Day! #MemorialDay2024 #HonorAndRemember #CourageAndResilience #CommunityStrength #NeverForget #TheWorldChangers #ChangeYourFinancesChangeYourWorld #YouChangeTheWorldChanges

Churchill in Horse Guards Parade This is one of my favourite photos of Churchill crossing Horse Guards Parade, London. Behind him is the Admiralty where he served as First Lord of the Admiralty - the political head of the Royal Navy. He held this post twice.

The Medal of Honor: Sometimes an Honor too Far The standards to award the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award for valor in combat, are exacting — as they should be. The recommendation, review and approval processes are equally rigorous and time consuming. Each step is subject to intense scrutiny, often resulting in delays of a few years between the date of action and the award date. However, sometimes it is not the process — the bureaucracy, “red tape” — that causes inordinate delays, even denial of the Honor, but rather something more insidious: prejudice, religious or racial bias, ethnic discrimination. On this day in history, June 18, 1812, Congress declared war on Britain, marking the beginning of the War of 1812. This significant conflict was driven by a series of grievances, including a British blockade that hampered American trade with France during the Napoleonic Wars and the forced recruitment of American merchant sailors into the Royal Navy. These issues ignited a fervor in many Americans, who viewed this as our second war of independence. The War of 1812 played a crucial role in shaping the United States. It tested our young nation’s resilience and ability to defend its sovereignty. The war fostered a sense of national unity and pride, eventually leading to the establishment of a more robust and respected military. Key battles and the defense of critical ports highlighted the strategic importance of a well-prepared defense force, lessons that resonate with us even today. Moreover, the war stimulated economic growth and independence by encouraging American manufacturing due to the disruption of trade. It also solidified the USA’s status on the global stage, proving that the nation could stand up to one of the world's most powerful empires. As we reflect on this historical milestone, we honor the bravery and determination of those who fought to protect our fledgling nation’s freedoms. Their legacy continues to inspire us to safeguard the principles of independence and liberty that define America.
