#southflorida - while plagued by traffic congestion, a "car-centric" culture, antiquated zoning, and a lack of walkability - the addition of a new public transportation system is welcoming. Effort, however, should be to enhance intra-county/city (east-west) mobility and not a purely linear system. Need a "comprehensive solution. This will take time... #sofloindustrialadviors #CRE https://lnkd.in/e8yHutzq?

A survey by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) shows that 63 per cent of the citizens walk more than 500 metres daily to reach their destinations. Cars and two-wheelers account for 30 per cent of the trips made but occupy 80 per cent of the road. The same survey reflects that 42 per cent of pedestrians would be encouraged to use public transport if the first and the last miles were covered by footpaths and safe pedestrian crossings -- basic amenities for pedestrians.1 However, these footpaths are either broken, blocked, or occupied by unauthorised car parking, leaving barely enough room to walk. My article in Common Cause Journal points out how crossing a road is not simply an activity but a battle. Your valuable feedback and suggestions are invited. Mexico, as the first country worldwide, has declared access to safe mobility a human right. As congestion increases, walkable and cyclable streets must to be a priority! 🚶♀️🚲 Research by PATH partner World Resources Institute shows that even simple modifications can go a long way in protecting pedestrians and cyclists. They recommend seven interventions on how cities in Mexico and beyond can (re)design their streets to make access to safe mobility a reality. Read all about it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eBaD4G2D

An appropriate solution to a frequently occurring issue: Carrying out road works without interrupting the road traffic In #Switzerland, as shown in the video, a practically effective #method of carrying out #road_works has been devised. A mobile elevated #bridge was used to serve the existing #traffic, thus enabling the simultaneous unhindered execution of the road works under the bridge.

It is an excellent move on reducing congestion but too much cost compared to providing more service on Go Train, which is now a minimal one-way service and bringing revenue. #tranportation #gotransit #publictransportation #bridge
Ontario is building a new four-lane bridge to run alongside the Garden City Skyway. Once complete, each bridge will have four lanes to reduce congestion on a vital border route used by more than 100,000 drivers and commercial vehicles every day. https://lnkd.in/eVVwba55

America's bad parking problem is one for the environment too. Why? Well, for starters, there's an average of 7 parking spots per American vehicle on the road. That's a lot considering parking lots aren't cheap to build or maintain and take up a lot of valuable land. Want to learn more? Getting buses right is one of the best things we can do (but rarely do) to vastly improve our places and the quality of our citizens’ lives.
This watchable video, featuring the power of excellent bus service to build impressive suburban rail ridership on a single metro line (and small regional rail system), must be seen by all American transit advocates and managers. It's great to see Jonathan English making the case for frequent, well-planned suburban bus feeder systems. Fare integration and seamless transfer are also featured. https://lnkd.in/eWbh797F This is a testimony to the amazing credibility of Brightline in Florida. Numerous tourists from Europe make the trip to Florida. These tourists demand exceptional train service, and Florida is rising to the occasion, slowly but surely. Keep an eye on Brightline West between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. What route should it take? Should it go south to Rancho Cucamonga and transfer riders to Metrolink, or should it follow the High-Desert Corridor between Victorville and Palmdale, and then share tracks with California High-Speed Rail between Palmdale and Los Angeles? My vote is the latter. #highspeedrail #asce #ite #civilengineering #trafficengineering #transportationplanning #transportationengineering
