Meet Anthony, one of Domi's summer interns for Team Marketing! Here's a little bit about him: "Greetings, I am Anthony Patterson II, a graduating senior from Jacksonville, FL. I currently attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. My hobbies include listening to music, playing video games, going to theme parks, and beaches, playing basketball, and watching TV/movies. I am also interested in walking trail parks as I never experienced walking on a trail until attending Famu. What excites me about the internship is the ability to work on tasks that can improve our skillset to become more knowledgeable about marketing and work with others to develop innovative ideas and use those ideas in reality. This week’s #AlumniThenAndNow, we are highlighting Nogosa Atekha a graduate from the Berkshire School’s class of 2021! Currently, Nogosa is an intern at William Blair! 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛 Receiving the DMSF scholarship changed my life in ways I can't even describe. The overall knowledge from experiencing an entirely different racial environment, and socioeconomic environment was extremely insightful. The opportunity to live on my own was beneficial, and the opportunity to play competitive sports in a prep league was also beneficial, as I am now an NCAA collegiate Track & Field athlete. The skills I learned in the summer bridge program for overall interaction with adults and sending emails are skills I still use to this day. The biggest benefit from the DMSF scholarship has been the alumni network with networking and connection opportunities. DMSF does a great job with putting alums in good networking environments, as Mr. Nick Cross provides us with webinars for internship opportunities at firms with strong DMSF representation. Finally, DMSF has a multitude of resources if needed in order to improve your overall health and happiness. 💙For you, what does it mean to be a Murphy Scholar? 💛Being a Murphy Scholar means to not only be a leader, but to be an academic weapon and to build good connections with those within and outside of your comfort zones. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛 I would advise to connect with people outside of your comfort zone more. Networking and connections hold more weight than I had ever thought. As I continue my sophomore year as a sport management major at University of Massachusetts Amherst Isenberg School of Management, I would like to look back at a personal achievement from last year. I was able to obtain the Isenberg Advanced Excel User Badge in my Operations and Information Management class! As a student looking for an opportunity into the sports industry through an internship, I am constantly looking for ways to improve my skills and become more versatile as I prepare for a life in sports. Becoming proficient in Microsoft Excel allowed me to add a new tool to my arsenal, and this experience will be helpful when I am asked to apply this knowledge into real-world situations.  #SportManagement #Isenberg #UmassAmherst

🌟 Thrilled to share my experience as a DOE Scholar supporting the Justice40 initiative! 🌟 As a rising junior double majoring in economics and mathematics at the University of Maryland, College Park, this summer has been incredibly rewarding. I have been working on creating a relational database of Justice40 data by integrating multiple datasets into an database, focused on ensuring that 40% of climate investment benefits reach disadvantaged communities. In addition to this, I've reached out to utility companies and public service commissions across the nation to gather data on utility shutoffs and arrearage information. This effort aligns with the EIA-EJE partnership to explore utility shutoff payback clauses. With many states having halted shutoffs during COVID-19, customers are now facing large bills. Our goal is to find data that shows the impact of these moratoria on disadvantaged communities. We’re exploring state energy offices, federal agencies, and university studies to understand this issue better. I’ve also been utilizing Microsoft Office to design and analyze documentation, presentations, and visualizations to support our reports. This internship has provided me with valuable skills in data analysis, statistical reasoning, database management, and technical communication. Weekly progress reports, mentor collaboration, and group meetings have been vital in developing my expertise in these areas. In addition, I've had the pleasure of meeting wonderful professionals and scholars who have offered invaluable advice on graduate school, career paths, and beyond. Their guidance has been instrumental in shaping my academic and professional goals. A huge thank you to my mentors Alvin Bates, PMP, Dr. Anjuli Jain Figueroa, and the fantastic team at EJE for their support and guidance.
