150 concerts at Madison Square Garden a few days ago. I was recently there and saw the 149 banner and the #piano that Billy Joel donated after his 100th performance at MSG.
“Piano man” was the closing song at my wedding reception and it’s just indelible in my mind. “Sing us a song, you're the piano man. Sing us a song tonight. Well, we're all in the mood for a melody. And you've got us feelin' alright”. I am sure you’ve heard or sung these words quite a few times too…
If you think about it, what the piano man actually does might not seem that glorious. He just makes us “feel alright” (no add-ons, no exaggeration, no further construction). Just “stare bene” (and that is the very simplicity of expression that makes these words so powerful).
By analogy, a story, a glass of wine, a beautiful melody, any product that aspires to establish a relation with us also pursues this ultimate outcome of “feelin’ alright” (“stare bene”), that experience of wholeness, plenitude, and yes, happiness that makes us enjoy life in the midst of contradictions and thank for being alive (we could not be here, yet we are). Simple as it may seem, “feelin’ alright” is the unquantifiable yet most meaningful goal of everything we build and create. Without it, even the most wonderful party would seem insignificant and non-memorable.
How to achieve that rhythm of things? What can make us dance in life? Who can turn our daily routines into a melody (yes, like that “La, la-la, di-dee-da” refrain that we sing with so much joy)? Well, that’s the artistry of the #chef, the #designer, the #storyteller. Of the #pianoman that every brand needs to have to achieve real value, impact, and interest (beyond the perfection of data).
Speaking of #pianos, here is the story of the Italian creator of the world’s most amazing #pianoforti. I wonder if Billy Joel ever played a Fazioli!
