Self perception of aging (SPA) and psychological resilience are known to have effects on health and healthy life behaviours. To our knowledge there is no study which evaluates SPA of geriatricians. Geriatricians are the group of doctors who have the most knowledge about aging and are most aware of the importance of healthy aging. So, is this knowledge and awareness enough for us, as geriatricians, to have a positive SPA and exhibit healthy aging behaviors? Do our experiences and aging over the years change these attitudes? If you are a Geriatrician, or geriatrics fellow, or internal medicine specialists who are working in the field of geriatric medicine please answer the questions which will take 5-8 minutes. Thanks Jesper Ryg and Zyta Wojszel for collaborating on writing this editorial. Indeed truely honored to learn that our paper has been selected as paper of the month in the European Geriatric Medicine Journal. The prevalence of falls and mild traumatic brain injury will increase significantly with aging population . It is important to follow them up for long term consequences as it impacts their quality of life and functional ability. It took us 18 months to publish our 1st paper in 2018 on Characteristics of fall-related traumatic brain injury in older adults (https://lnkd.in/gginhd6K). We need better longitudinal studies on this topic.
We are very happy to share with you the Article of the Month, selected by our Academic Board, from the latest edition of the European Geriatric Medicine Journal, the official journal of the EuGMS. 📄 ℹ️Titled “The hidden impact of mild-traumatic brain injury in older adults“, this insightful piece uncovers the profound effects of mild-traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in older adults, which can lead to long-term physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. The article highlights the role of falls as a leading cause of mTBI in this population, the complex interplay of frailty, multimorbidity, and polypharmacy, and the urgent need for comprehensive geriatric assessments and personalized care pathways to improve outcomes. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/4iMr4PZ Join us in exploring the latest evidence shaping the future of Geriatric Medicine. 🚀 #EuGMS #EGMJournal #ArticleOfTheMonth #GeriatricMedicine #CGA #AcademicBoard
