RECEPTION, MY BUDDY “You seem to want that vivida vis animi which spurs and excites most young men to please , to shine and to excel. without the desire and pains necessary to be considerable, depend upon it, You never can be so. ~Lord Chesterfield Reception is the identity of the laboratory - it's where patients form their first impression. The front desk and Phlebotomy areas play key roles in patient care. Processing patients on the Laboratory Information System and billing are just a part of the job - effective communication and self-control are vital when dealing with patients and medical professionals. Rejecting samples is challenging but crucial for ensuring quality results. Cooperation between clinicians and lab staff is essential for the benefit of the patients. Remember, "your result is as good as your sample." #LaboratoryOperations #PatientCare #HealthcareCommunication #ProudBiomedicalScientist. #NSSDIARIES

We're celebrating our advanced practice clinicians this week. Meet Colin Williams, a pharmacist clinician with our Complete Care Program. Q: What drives your passion for practicing medicine as an APC? A: We have an opportunity to make a real difference in our patients' lives. Whether it's sharing our knowledge or advocating for them, or sometimes simply listening - what we do can really help people, and that's a great feeling! Q: What is the number one question you are asked as an APC in your specialty? A: My diabetic patients frequently ask, “what can I eat?" Maintaining a healthy diet can be difficult for many people but when you throw in extra parameters like carb counting or salt restriction it can be a real challenge. Q: What personal strengths do you feel you bring to your current role? A: I think it's enthusiasm and not being afraid to try new things! Q: What's the best advice you've ever received? A: You should treat everyone the way you'd like to be treated. Q: Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know? A: My go-to karaoke song is “Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. Q: What do you like to do outside of work? A: I'm probably up for trying just about anything! But most of all I love to cook, read, and spend time with my family.

ℹ️ Specimen Handling and Transportation: Proper handling and transportation of specimens are crucial in healthcare settings to ensure accurate diagnostic results. Here are key guidelines to follow: 🏷️ Labeling: - Each specimen should be clearly labeled with vital information, including the patient's full name, date of birth, specimen type, collection date and time, physician details, and relevant diagnosis or symptoms. 📋 Submission Requirements: - Submit specimens with a requisition form and provide comprehensive collection and fixation instructions for accuracy. 📝 Instructions for Medical Receptionist/Phlebotomist: - Ensure requisition forms are fully completed, neat, and legible for seamless processing. 🧪 Container: - Utilize appropriately labeled, leak-proof containers. Add formalin if not pre-added, ensuring correct labeling and dating on formalin containers. 🛑 Rejection Criteria: - Unlabeled specimens or those with incomplete requisitions risk rejection. Proper storage and transportation are essential to prevent leakage. ⚠️ Caution: - Specimens are preserved in a 10% neutral buffered formaldehyde solution. Avoid skin and eye contact to prevent irritation or damage. Adhere to safety protocols during handling. Following these best practices fosters efficiency and accuracy in specimen management. #HealthcareProtocols #MedicalSafety #SpecimenHandling 🩺🔬
