"Today, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing a major homelessness case for the first time in decades, with arguments over whether people can be punished for sleeping outside if there's no shelter available. The decision could have sweeping implications for the record number of people living in tents and cars, and the cities and states struggling to manage them." -NPR, April 22
While KulshanCLT does not actively serve folks that are experiencing homelessness, we are always aware that issues across the spectrum of housing are interconnected. The rising cost of housing and the limited number of available, affordable housing opportunities make this a crisis that deserves our collective attention.
Let's pay attention to what's happening across the full spectrum of housing nationally. Let's work together with likeminded partners across sectors to ensure access to affordable housing for all. And let's make sure that our response is one of humanity and solidarity first.
"Even where places are investing heavily to create more affordable housing, it will take a while to catch up. This Supreme Court case won't solve any of that, but it could dramatically shape the lives of those forced to live on streets, parks and back alleys for years to come." -NPR, April 22
