Here's an interesting read from others in our banking community: Queensborough National Bank's recovery after Hurricane Helene highlights how banks can better prepare for natural disasters. Most of their 25 branches lost power and cell service, making recovery tough. Lessons learned include keeping generators fueled, ensuring employees take laptops home, and exploring satellite internet. Recovery isn't just about tech—supporting staff dealing with personal losses is crucial too. https://buff.ly/40xpxX7 #SouthernBankEquipment #SouthernBankEquipmentATMs #BankingNews #BankEquipment #HurricaneHelene

What's the latest in banking? #SBATraining - On Monday, October 21, the NCBA will host a free loan deferment and disaster loan training session over Zoom in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The session includes a Q&A opportunity, making it a valuable resource even if your operations weren’t directly affected by Hurricane Helene. #HurricaneHeleneUpdate - Hurricane Helene is now the U.S. mainland's second-deadliest storm since 1969's Hurricane Camille. Estimates of the total damage and economic loss to range from $225 billion to $250 billion. #FederalReserve - Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman called for changes in how nonbanks are regulated, noting that banks are currently subject to a broader range of restrictions imposed by “regulatory requirements or the ‘soft’ power of supervision.” Find these stories and more in the #NCBankersBulletin -> https://lnkd.in/g49FEUwn

🌐 In a time where everything seems to be going digital—from payments to investing—it’s easy to forget that cash can still be essential. I was reminded of this during a recent hurricane evacuation when the power and communication networks went down. Without electricity, card payments weren’t an option—and cash was the only way to buy essentials. So, here’s the question: How prepared are you? Do you have enough cash on hand to weather a similar situation? It doesn’t matter if it’s $500 or $2,000—the amount should reflect what makes you feel secure. Take a moment to think about it. Emergencies can happen anytime, and cash might just be your safety net. #EmergencyCash #Preparedness #FinancialSecurity

🚨 I had to evacuate recently due to a hurricane, and it taught me an important lesson: cash isn’t obsolete. When power was down, so were card payment systems, and gas stations and stores could only accept cash. Many people were caught off guard. It’s easy to assume that in our digital world, cash doesn’t matter. But when systems fail, cash is often the only way to get what you need. As someone who’s spent years advising on financial security, I can’t stress enough the importance of being prepared. Ask yourself: How much cash would make me feel comfortable during a crisis? What would I need to cover a week’s worth of essentials? No need to panic—just plan. Cash gives you control when everything else is out of your hands. #EmergencyFund #CrisisPreparedness #InvestingForMeditators #MeditationForInvestors #Investing

According to the BofA report, there are 833,268 mortgages originated in the affected regions and securitized into residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), totaling $96 billion in unpaid principal balance (UPB). Most of them are in Florida (53%), followed by North Carolina (19%), South Carolina (18%), Georgia (8%) and Virginia (3%). The hurricane impacted 3,449 RMBS deals, with credit risk transfer (CRT), nonqualified mortgages (non-QMs), and second liens/home equity lines of credit having the highest exposure. The analysis shows that the delinquent balance on these loans — those more than 30 days overdue — is currently about $2 billion.

As a survivor of a natural disaster, I understand the urgent need to support those rebuilding after recent hurricanes. Financial institutions in affected areas, this message is for you: - #Homedepot and #Lowes collaborate with insurance adjusters for #instant payouts on essential supplies - Some families cannot access #instantpayments because their #bank is not onboarded to #fasterpayments #fednow #rtp rails for transactions - Traditional methods like mailing #checks can be challenging post-disaster, hindering access to crucial funds Want to know what this looks like for your customers? A story: My family didn't have a mailbox after the tornado hit. We couldn't forward our mail because we didn't move; the mailman stopped coming because the houses on our street were unlivable. We had to drive to the post office every other day to see if the check(s) came. And when we got our new mailbox, we still couldn't live in our house and had to drive to the mailbox to see if the check was there. It left such a stark impression on me how difficult it was to access money that we needed. And it happens to millions of people across the U.S. each year. 👏 Access to funds is critical for recovery. Let's ensure everyone has the financial services they need *now*. 👏 Sending love and support to all of my colleagues and friends in the affected areas. We see you. 🤍 TLDR: Faster payments are crucial for aiding recovery.
