Do you know how much money is wasted on Christmas presents every year? I don't. But there are some unread football autobiographies gathering dust in my wardrobe that have added to the figure. And it's not that I don't like Ian Wright or Peter Crouch. They're excellent. It's that I have young kids who a) rightfully take over my free time; and b) much prefer I read them Julia Donaldson or Roald Dahl before bed. But while I don't read for leisure enough, I do find time for the odd business book. Especially those that can help me to improve and deliver more value to clients. So this year, I'm hoping Santa brings me Will Guidara's best-seller #UnreasonableHospitality. I've seen his TED talk and a podcast interview, and both left me hooked. For those unfamiliar, Will took New York’s Eleven Madison Park to the title of the world’s best restaurant. His secret? Creating a culture of extraordinary moments and experiences – or, as he puts it, “the remarkable power of being unreasonable about how we made people feel.” I can't wait to read it. But just as I tell my kids... "we're not buying anything today because Christmas is nearly here, and Santa might bring you something if you're good." So it's on my list and I'm making a last-ditch attempt to get on the nice list. And who knows? Maybe after the BFG and Snail and the Whale, my kids will want to learn about the restaurant trade. #Brand #Culture #Service #Hospitality
