Creating special memories for my family brings me joy, but I know that doing the planning for those things can take up a lot of time. Being a working parent doesn't always leave extra time for that. I wanted to be able to share the joy of special moments, smiles, and "wows!" with other working parents, so I created Two Traveling Toddlers. I vividly remember the feeling I got while touring Give Kids The World Village in Kissimmee, Florida. A feeling similar to how I felt after riding "Flight of Passage" at Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World for the first time. "Now, wait," I can hear some saying, "how could going on a Disney attraction compare to the way you feel at a place that provides free week-long vacations to critically ill children? That seems a bit out of balance." My answer... Yes, of course, the magnitude of meaning and challenge is far different but the FEELING I felt at both places was that same sense of wonder. Oh, yes, and Walt Disney World was a partner in the founding of GKTW by Holocaust survivor Henri Landwirth -- along with Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld Parks & Resorts Orlando, and Perkins Restaurants and Bakery. Plus, many current and former Disney Leaders, Imagineers, and Cast Members volunteer at GKTW. And both places provide vacations for families to have fun together (sound familiar?), an escape from the hurries and worries of the world. Of course, with GKTW, those hurries and worries are much bigger (because, really, what's bigger than caring for a critically ill child?). But, again, the feeling they both can bring is transcendence. Of rising above and beyond. Of getting a sense of who we all can be in our best moments. Which is why I decided to partner with GKTW through my "How Does Disney Do That?" project, which includes my business partner, former Imagineer and founder of The Designer's Creative Studio Theron Skees. We also have many people in our HDDDT groups on LinkedIn and Facebook who volunteer for GKTW, and several stories from their leadership and team appear in my book, including CEO Pamela Landwirth. As a reminder, a portion of the proceeds from the book go to GKTW and you can join our fundraiser, too, on our HDDDT website. But, as always, with GKTW, words aren't enough. How do we unbusy our lives to show our children that we care? As the month starts to unwind for the holidays, we may be facing all kinds of busyness: the busyness of wrapping up work before we're out of the office, the busyness of holiday events, the busyness of holiday travel. But are we taking time through our busy schedules to listen to our kids? This week, we'll be exploring ways to better connect with our children by showing up more fully and giving kids time and space to express themselves. One key thing we can do to unbusy our lives is to prioritize our time for our kids. For some of us, if it's not in our calendars, then it doesn't happen. Give that same sort of priority to your children by scheduling time with them. We'll give more tips about what you can do in that time later this week. Something to reflect on today: if your children aren't listening to you, are you listening to them?

Bird Key provides a safe place for birds to rest on their journey 💤 As the only undeveloped and natural island in North Biscayne Bay, it’s also free of predators like raccoons. 👉🏾 Human impact like boating 🚤 and visitors have already taken a toll on the island’s ecosystem. Fewer birds are nesting here, and any more disruption to the ecosystem may collapse it.
