It includes architectural and infrastructure components like walls, signage, equipment, displays, and decor. I’ve been reflecting on the 7 Principles of Universal Design These can be applied pan Design industries! Equitable Use: Design that’s useful and marketable to people with diverse abilities. Think ramps and automatic doors. Flexibility in Use: Accommodates a wide range of individual preferences and abilities. Adjustable furniture is a great example. Simple and Intuitive: Easy to understand, regardless of the user’s experience, knowledge, language skills, or concentration level. Clear signage and straightforward layouts work wonders. Perceptible Information: Communicates necessary information effectively, regardless of ambient conditions or the user’s sensory abilities. Contrast, texture, and sound can make a big difference. Tolerance for Error: Minimizes hazards and adverse consequences of accidental or unintended actions. Rounded edges and safety features are crucial. Low Physical Effort: Can be used efficiently and comfortably with a minimum of fatigue. Think about lever handles instead of knobs. Size and Space for Approach and Use: Provides appropriate size and space for approach, reach, manipulation, and use regardless of user’s body size, posture, or mobility. Wide corridors and adjustable countertops are key. ----------------------------------------------------------------- These principles are not just about accessibility, but rather about making design universal.
