If there was any doubt about the pace of growth in the wind sector, the UK’s offshore wind sector is preparing for more significant expansion. An Industrial Growth Plan (IGP) has been developed by RenewableUK, the Offshore Wind Industry Council, The Crown Estate and Crown Estate Scotland working in partnership with wider industry. This plan outlines plans to triple offshore wind manufacturing capacity over the next decade, further anchoring the UK as a prominent player in global offshore wind to keep ahead of the chasing pack. Central to the IGP’s success is the acceleration of offshore wind deployment in alignment with UK net zero targets, targeting a capacity of 5-6GW per year. Currently, the UK has the second-largest global pipeline of offshore wind projects, second only to China. Nearly 100GW are in various stages of development; six times the country’s current capacity. The plan addresses supply chain constraints and identifies opportunities for investment in manufacturing. The Crown Estate is establishing a £50 million “Supply Chain Accelerator” to catalyse early-stage investment. This involves an initial £10 million pilot fund to be launched this summer to support supply chain opportunities created through the Celtic Sea Leasing Round 5 and a further £40 million earmarked aligned to the IGP. FGP have been working on offshore wind all over the UK for over 25 years securing cable and substation consents .. everytime with no reliance on compulsory rights and voluntary agreement being secured. #offshorewind #IGP

For ports to effectively support the #offshorewind industry, port authorities will need to invest time and resources into planning and infrastructure to accommodate the technical and operational requirements associated with the construction and ongoing operations and maintenance of offshore wind farms. Today, let’s meet James Wiley who shares about the experiences gained from Ramboll’s involvement in numerous offshore wind port planning projects in geographies where the offshore wind industry is more mature, providing valuable insights so as to avoid mistakes and delays previously experienced on projects elsewhere. 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/gpyJbkrJ At Australia Wind Energy 2024, meet with our team of experts to discuss how we can leverage our global expertise and capabilities, developed through actual project delivery of offshore wind port terminals, to support and enable port authorities to make informed and well considered decisions in their plans to service the offshore wind industry. Read the article at the American Journal of Transportation | AJOT, “California ports gear up to build offshore wind ports,” by Stas Margaronis—May 17, 2024. “Two California ports, Long Beach and Humboldt Bay, are gearing up to build offshore wind ports but still need financing. The two ports plan to build facilities that will assemble and launch floating offshore wind turbines to be deployed off the coasts of Central and Northern California. Suzanne Plezia, Chief Harbor Engineer, Port of Long Beach and Chris Mikkelsen, Executive Director, Port of Humboldt Bay, discussed their challenges at the Pacific Offshore Wind Summit at Sacramento, California on May 15th. Several other Summit speakers echoed Kelly Boyd, Senior Director, Policy Development with the Norwegian offshore wind developer Equinor who said: ‘There are no wind farms without the wind ports.’ An executive, who asked not to be identified, told AJOT: ‘There is plenty of capital in the United States to support investments in these ports and in offshore wind in California. What investors need to see is that by 2030 there has been progress developing the infrastructure and deploying offshore wind turbines’…” Read the full story below and at this link. https://lnkd.in/eZPDhSse #offshorewind #floatingwind #cleanenergy #renewables #climate #offshorewindca #pacificoffshorewindsummit

What a way to kick off All-Energy Exhibition and Conference! As announced this morning, we’ve joined forces with ports and harbours throughout the country as part of Scottish Offshore Wind Ports Alliance (SOWPA). Scotland’s offshore wind industry is growing rapidly and despite high levels of optimism, we recognise this growth will create industry-wide challenges. Ports and harbours throughout the country will be vital to Scotland's energy transition so it is essential we exchange knowledge to address shared obstacles. This morning, SOWPA Chair Iain Sinclair, said - “It is widely recognised that ports have a critical enabling role in the industrialisation and deployment of offshore wind in the UK. Today’s announcement demonstrates that ports are motivated to take the initiative, work proactively and diligently together, and align with the whole offshore wind ecosystem, to maximise the localisation of the supply chain requirements. “SOWPA’s collective capability, knowledge and expertise is a world-leading value proposition. We have a willingness and appetite to enhance our competitiveness, address supply chain challenges and deliver against Scotland and the UK’s offshore wind ambitions.” Learn more 👉 sowpa.co.uk #orkney #orkneyfutureports #energyoforkney #renewables #energy #sowpa #scotwind #netzero #offshorewind

#France #offshorewind #targets #status #nextsteps Unlocking offshore wind potential in France 👇 - Targets 🎯 "18 GW of offshore wind by 2035 and 45 GW by 2050." - Status ✅ "on 15 May Delegate Minister for Industry Roland Lescure inaugurated the Fécamp offshore wind farm, France’s second fully operational offshore wind farm. France also has one partly commissioned project (500 MW Saint Brieuc) and 15 further projects are the pipeline for 2035. 3 of them are in the process of being built: Yeu/Noirmoutier (500 MW), Courseulles-sur-Mer (450 MW) and Diepe/Le Tréport (500 MW)." - Next steps 🚀 "Two offshore wind auction rounds of 1.2 GW and 1.5 GW (AO7, AO8) will be launched this summer. And a broad stakeholder consultation to be finalised this year will inform the Government about suitable sites for offshore wind development up until 2050. As a result of this consultation an auction round (AO10) for up to 8-10 GW of capacity could be prepared later this year already."
🇫🇷 France commits to big offshore wind volumes. France has taken long to start offshore wind development. The first parks were stuck in planning and permitting for 10 years or longer. But this is changing now. France is quickly becoming a dynamic and attractive offshore wind market. During a visit to Saint-Nazaire on 2 May France’s Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire and Delegate Minister for Industry Roland Lescure outlined the French Government’s strategy for offshore wind. 🔝 They announced new auction schedules 📚 They want to halve planning and permitting times 🌊 They held the first commercial-scale floating wind auction 🇪🇺 They want to raise the bar with supply chain resilience criteria Read our news piece for more: https://lnkd.in/eRjRWXSw

The Gippsland Dawn offshore wind project, led by BlueFloat Energy, has received the prestigious Major Project Status (MPS) from the Australian Government—a major milestone recognising its economic significance to Australia. This makes it one of only 16 projects nationwide to receive this honour, and the second offshore wind initiative to do so, following the landmark Star of the South wind farm. This status brings Gippsland Dawn critical support through a dedicated case manager from the Major Projects Facilitation Agency, who will assist BlueFloat Energy in navigating the approvals process. While Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic MP clarified that MPS does not imply government endorsement or guaranteed financial success, it underscores the project’s "economic significance" to the nation. Darragh White, Project Director, captured it perfectly: “The success of Gippsland Dawn relies on collaboration and shared benefits for everyone involved.” With a 30+ year operational lifespan, Gippsland Dawn is set to power homes, fuel job growth, and support a sustainable future. Projects like this showcase how Australia's wind industry can drive economic transformation, lower emissions, and create long-term value for communities. #renewableenergy #majorprojectstatus #australia #offshorewind #windfarm #mps #windenergy #sustainability #bluefloat #evoegy
