More good news this morning! We are thrilled to share that we won the Supply Chain Impact Award at the recent RenewableUK Global Offshore Wind Awards, for our significant impact on developing the supply chain. Forth Ports Limited is implementing an offshore wind, multi-port infrastructure strategy to address the UK’s port capacity challenges and significantly contribute to supply chain development, supporting the UK’s offshore wind ambitions. This proactive investment ensures that the UK can support developer projects and instil market confidence in the supply chain, with the necessary infrastructure to deploy offshore wind at both scale and pace. Infrastructure is the backbone of any industrial cluster. Our purpose-built port infrastructure not only captures project activity and fosters supply chain development but also facilitates the creation of manufacturing facilities. This presents a tremendous opportunity for the UK to transform project-based offshore wind activities into a long-term, sustainable industry, benefiting the green industrialisation of the UK and future generations. Have you ever heard the story of how the unfortunately named DONG changed its fortunes? Some will have you believe that corporations in fossil fuels cannot pivot but that's not true all it takes is strategic thinking and purpose. Have you ever heard of company called Orsted? Ofcourse you have, they make windmills. This is the very short story of how Danish Oil and Natural Gas became Orsted and its relevant in light of recent news out of New York on a massive investment in green energy. In 1972 DONG was formed to manage gas and oil resources in the Danish sector of the North Sea. In 2006 EBITDA for DONG was 96% from fossil fuels and 4% from Renewables by 2020 it was 88% to 12% in favour of Renewables. This is a massive transformation. Why and How? It started in 2002 when DONG started a series of mergers and ended up with windfarm assets. In 2006 DONG was signed the UN Global Compact. At that time internally the entity was facing pressure from their biggest stakeholders the Danish people to get out of fossil fuels. Seeing the headwinds at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, DONG Energy adopted the "85/15 vision" strategy, with the aim of changing from a company with 85% of activities fossil fuel based to a company 85% based on green energy activities. While this was facilitated in part by government subsidies and incentives it was somewhat jeopardized and also given urgency in 2012 when the company faced considerable financial challenges due to weakness in the gas markets, which saw its CEO change. This was followed by Goldman Sachs and Danish pension funds ATP and PFA coming on board as small percentage owners to aid the restructuring. What else did they do? Strategically the did the following: (1) Committed to energy transition through long-term strategy realignment, (2) A gradual de-risking and divestment plan was created and executed, (3) first mover advantage, (4) committed to a strong sustainability disclosure regime that was arguably thrust upon them by Danish law in 2009 but they embraced it. Fastforward to today state of NY announces the construction by Orsted and partners of the Sunrise Windfarm that will create enough energy to power 320,000 homes. Not too shabby. Anything is possible... https://lnkd.in/gUS3R6zQ

⚡ Ocean-based renewable energy has a significant role to play in decarbonisation efforts and sustainable economic transitions ⚡ Rapid uptake could deliver an estimated 10% of the emissions reductions necessary by 2050 to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees, according to a report commissioned by the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy. We were delighted to be joined by Erin Coldham, Chief Development Officer at Southerly Ten, at the recent Parliamentary Briefing on Australia’s sustainable ocean economy. Erin spoke to the economic and employment opportunities presented by offshore wind energy for regional communities in Australia currently in economic transition. “We have quite a fragile energy system that over 100 years was built up using a certain type of technology. We now have a challenge over the next 25 years to dismantle that existing system, and rebuild it with a mix of technologies in just a quarter of the time. There's really not a moment to lose and offshore wind represents a large-scale, step change in the renewable energy opportunity” Erin called for a national plan to grow offshore wind through supporting transmission and port infrastructure, regulatory processes and social license, and effective forums for collaboration between levels of government and industry. In a significant step forward for ocean-based renewable energy in Australia, Star of the South is one of six offshore wind projects to have received a feasibility license in the Gippsland Offshore Renewable Energy Zone after years of extensive community and government engagement. #fortheOcean UN Ocean Decade #auspol #oceaneconomy #blueeconomy #sustainableoceaneconomy #offshorewind #windenergy #renewableenergy

A first-of-a-kind methodology to standardise how the carbon footprint of an offshore wind farm is measured has been published today by the Offshore Wind Sustainability Joint Industry Programme (SUS JIP). The methodology will enable more accurate and standardised assessments of carbon footprints across the full lifecycle of offshore wind developments. It is applicable to fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind. It also has the potential to support carbon emission transparency on offshore wind projects, facilitating action on non-price criteria following recent changes to many international offshore wind auction requirements. https://loom.ly/NpBFffY #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition #CarbonFootprint cc The Carbon Trust
