In August 2021, the independent Strategic Investment Assessment (SIA) was published, offering five key recommendations to guide the growth of Scotland's offshore wind sector. SOWEC has fully adopted these recommendations which are now being actively implemented. At the heart of this action is the development of a Collaborative Framework Charter between Scottish offshore wind projects, aimed at boosting local investment and innovation. Floating Offshore Wind represents a tremendous opportunity for Scotland - and proper development of the Scottish supply chain will be key to realising it.
Today SOWEC welcomes the Floating Offshore Wind Taskforce report launched at #FloatingWind24, which marks the UK as a global player in the floating offshore wind industry. Scotland is already playing a significant part in delivering the UK’s Net Zero vision. Key ports that will build and maintain floating offshore wind projects have been assessed and prioritised by the Strategic Investment Model (SIM). This is a pivotal moment for Scotland, and we must remain focussed on collaboration across the industry to deliver a stable supply chain. What a way to kick off All-Energy Exhibition and Conference! As announced this morning, we’ve joined forces with ports and harbours throughout the country as part of Scottish Offshore Wind Ports Alliance (SOWPA). Scotland’s offshore wind industry is growing rapidly and despite high levels of optimism, we recognise this growth will create industry-wide challenges. Ports and harbours throughout the country will be vital to Scotland's energy transition so it is essential we exchange knowledge to address shared obstacles. This morning, SOWPA Chair Iain Sinclair, said - “It is widely recognised that ports have a critical enabling role in the industrialisation and deployment of offshore wind in the UK. Today’s announcement demonstrates that ports are motivated to take the initiative, work proactively and diligently together, and align with the whole offshore wind ecosystem, to maximise the localisation of the supply chain requirements. “SOWPA’s collective capability, knowledge and expertise is a world-leading value proposition. We have a willingness and appetite to enhance our competitiveness, address supply chain challenges and deliver against Scotland and the UK’s offshore wind ambitions.” Learn more 👉 sowpa.co.uk #orkney #orkneyfutureports #energyoforkney #renewables #energy #sowpa #scotwind #netzero #offshorewind

If you want to know the secret to securing necessary resources for the future of energy generation, make sure to join our General Manager of Business Development, Bill Firth, at Offshore Energies UK's (OEUK) Offshore Decommissioning Conference on the 20th of November. Bill will join other industry leaders to discuss the vast opportunities in offshore wind decommissioning, including key challenges around infrastructure, resource needs, and the importance of circularity and recycling. The session will also launch OEUK’s new Decommissioning of Offshore Wind Installations Guideline and Work Breakdown Structure - both of which are critical resources for navigating the future of wind decommissioning and sustainable asset management and not to be missed.
