As we look around us, we see pieces of history in the buildings and architecture that make up our cities. In Florida, these buildings can be hundreds of years old, and in other countries, far older than that. Learning how early civilizations had to continually innovate and engineer building techniques with limited resources and knowledge really deepens my appreciation for both ancient and modern construction. Despite having far less access to information and technology, they created enduring structures that continue inspire builders today. It's not often that I stumble upon videos worth sharing here, but this animation does a fantastic job showcasing how the founders of Venice, Italy built what is now a world-class city from mere marshlands, and continued to grow it despite the constantly changing circumstances in the city. To see many of these structures still standing today speaks to how ingenious their techniques were - give it a watch! #engineering #construction #generalcontracting #design #sustainability https://lnkd.in/eqPAuzPv

How'd They Do It? _______________________________ Looking for a bit of inspiration to fire the rest of your week? Look no further than "The crazy engineering of Venice" brought to us by Primal Space, below. The world is longing for a redesign of systems currently failing their intention because they fail in compatibility with Nature's own sustainably intelligent design - long disrespected, dismissed and now, increasingly destabilized. The architecture of Venice reveals astonishingly insightful and enduring engineering principals from a thousand years ago while harnessing Nature's physics together with natural materials. Note especially, the fresh water collection system envisioned and implemented then... and relevant still. Brilliant. Scalable. Sustainable. A favorite aspect of great engineering? From the simplest implement to the most complex system, the best designs latently possess innumerable points of innovation over time, offering the ultimate flex potential relative to changing needs and opportunities. Some designs are true classics. Let's consider resiliency in the face of challenge, and nature-positive material science to help preserve what remains of our natural world. ______________________________ #earth #climate #climateinstability #planetaryboundaries #drought #deluge #resiliency #naturepositive #water #watercollectionsystems #engineering #architecture #principals #concepts #systems ______________________________ https://lnkd.in/eXZfDrJt
