When we want to ensure something is done right, we often consult with the best in the business. Now, obviously there are criteria to look at: qualifications, experience, competency and currency. We are looking at how we can facilitate a location shoot at the moment and have turned to Ollie Laker. As a professional rigger he is able to put cameras in some exotic and remote places in a way that keeps everyone safe, and keeps everyone creative! Our kind of guy! - Qualification: IRATA L3 - Experience: Have worked together previously and has a long list of credits we can use as a reference - Competency: Evidence of having worked within this specific remit successfully in the past - Currency: Have discussed CPD and on going projects that prove he has been involved in something similar recently. Rigging and maintaining load control is a complicated process that requires careful and educated planning. In order to maintain load control, a rigger should consider these factors when planning a lift: * Know the weight of the Load. * Determine the center of gravity. * Select the appropriate lifting and rigging equipment. * Select the appropriate sling hitch. * Be aware of possibility of fouling / clear of personnel. * Determine whether a tag line is needed. * Be aware of environmental conditions. * Understand load stabilization. #Free_Palestine 💚

Many crane operators that use remote control to operate their cranes likely don't know that in Alberta, OHS 72(3) states "The employer must ensure that an operator who uses a remote control to operate a lifting device is visually distinguishable from other workers at the work site." Now it's not something well known, it is something we talk about in our program and I often hear that on many sites, it is the rigger that is required to wear a reflective gauntlet so they can be determined as such. However many provinces do indicate that it is the operator (remote control) that must be distinguishable. A question I am asked is...why? A clearly identified operator is highly visible so that in any event all persons on a lift site know who it is providing crane movements. Kind of a weird one but it's there for a reason.
