Bioptimus AI Raises $35M (Seed Round) 🧬 Bioptimus, a new generative AI startup based in Paris, is distinguishing itself with a unique focus on biology. This specialization is driven by the complexities and sensitivities associated with biological data, which differs from the data sourcing strategies of companies like OpenAI. Unlike OpenAI's shift towards licensed content, Bioptimus confronts the challenge of working with private clinical data. The startup, necessitating significant capital for GPU-based model training and recruiting top researchers, has raised a $35 million seed round. This funding is led by Sofinnova Partners, with contributions from various investors including Bpifrance’s Large Venture fund and Cathay Innovation. Jean-Philippe Vert, serving as the co-founder and executive chairman of Bioptimus, brings his experience as the chief R&D officer at Owkin, a French biotech unicorn. Alongside him is CTO Rodolphe Jenatton, a former senior research scientist at Google, and several co-founders from Google DeepMind. Bioptimus will benefit from Owkin's collection of multimodal patient data acquired through global academic hospital partnerships, providing a robust foundation for its AI models. Bioptimus can be seen as an offshoot of Owkin, a decision driven by the resource-intensive nature of developing foundational AI models. Owkin supports Bioptimus, recognizing the advantage of a dedicated entity for such an ambitious project. This approach allows Bioptimus to focus solely on foundational models in biology. With a partnership already established with Amazon Web Services, Bioptimus is poised to train its model using AWS's infrastructure. The company's goal is to leverage AI in enhancing disease diagnosis, precision medicine, and the development of new biomolecules for medical and environmental applications. 🟪 Follow Quality AI News: Treky #ai #biology #tech #biotech #startup

Have you recently come across amazing ways to use AI for good? Either by a startup or a more mature company? Please share here! We would love to hear about it. Keith Ippel, Nathan Percy, Shantanu Mehta and I are constantly blown away when reviewing deal flow Spring Collective by some of the ways AI is leveraged by founders in the impact space. Yet, there is also so much to learn and to be cautious about with AI. I am sharing this fascinating conversation between CBC @Matt Galloway and Yoshua Bengio that aired last week. Prof Yoshua Bengio helped to create artificial intelligence, and now he wishes he’d included an off switch. The Montreal computer scientist explains why he’s worried about the rapidly developing technology, and how it could be reined in. He shares: - How much faster AI has developed than anticipated, especially as AI mastered human language so quickly - How he sees the most potential in AI to advance other sciences and engineering - He also touches on how some considerations for investors in AI and how time horizons should be considered - The potential threat to democracy and man-kind - And how Canadian scientist who are leading the way in AI have a unique chance to make AI a force for good. Give it a listen here (just 20 minutes)! 🎧 https://lnkd.in/gzpiyJBH I wanted to share some super innovative startups that are embracing full on the power of AI. Three examples that jump to mind: - Heal Mary founder Cassandra Hui (She/Her) and the potential for AI to support cancer patients and clinical trials. - ManagingLife founder Tahir Janmohamed and helping people living with pain communicate with the doctors in all languages - My Well Self founder Brenda A. using AI to make the most of well-being treatment and dollars! Check them out and let us know what you think! Yes to reining in AI but also yes supporting those impact founders who are revealing the full potential for AI and making it a force for good! #AI #impactinvesting #community #startups #innovation #healthinnovations

On April 7th and 8th, at the 13th Congress of Young Scientists of ITMO University, I presented two of my research papers: - "Using Artificial Intelligence to Mitigate Negative Effects of Information Asymmetry in the Labor Market of Innovative Industries" - "Enhancing Startup Staffing Efficiency through Objective Competency Assessment of Hired Specialists" The first paper discusses using AI to address information asymmetry in the labor market and proposes solutions through semantic analysis of documents generated by specialists. The second paper explores ways to improve staffing efficiency by objectively assessing competencies of hired specialists, enhancing the company's innovation potential through AI-based competency assessment mechanisms. I have just read the news about Hippocratic AI, a leading health tech startup, that has achieved a $500mn valuation, indicating its potential to revolutionize patient care through generative AI. Hippocratic AI is spearheading the development of AI "agents" to enhance low-risk, patient-centric healthcare delivery. Their recent fundraising round, totaling $53mn, was led by venture firms General Catalyst and Premji Invest, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz and SV Angel, bringing the total investment in Hippocratic AI to $120mn. Additionally, their partnership with NVIDIA highlights their commitment to providing real-time AI-driven solutions. However, challenges remain, such as the current average response time of 9 seconds for AI doctors, which poses limitations in live conversations. In general, the rapid advancement of Generative AI is accelerating the development of health tech. This progress is particularly noteworthy given the traditional nature of the medical field. As healthcare continues its digital transformation, the question arises: would you entrust AI doctors and their prescriptions with your health? #HealthTech #AI #Innovation #Startups
