This week a good amount has happened. First in regards to my game I decided to have a small break so I didn’t get burned out always important to have breaks from time to time. I did do work on improving my model and rigging. More importantly I had a zoom call as I’m part of a 3 year program that goes over my experience after graduating. I wanted to share some key parts of that with everyone today. One of the big topics we discussed was the current state of the gaming industry. Its sad and I can easily understand why people would look at what’s going on and not want to be a part of the industry. The gentleman who interviewed me even ask does this push me away from the industry. My answer no in fact it pushes me more to try and break into this industry. I want to be one of the people to help fix the current state of the gaming industry. I’ve developed a road map of where I want to be after I get into the industry and that plan will be tweaked as I go on. Another point I wish to make is one reason I believe games aren’t doing too well. I understand that this isn’t a simple issue and there are many factors as to why the industry is struggling. However I don’t think certain companies are having their main focus be in the right areas of game development. I see a lot of big companies focus on things like graphics, story, or certain themes they want to get across. What I see is a lack of focus on gameplay and polish. Why do most people buy video games? Main reason to play them people get movies to watch them right? My point is this I will make sure all my games have the polish gameplay they deserve. Because in a situation where let’s say the story doesn’t work I can look at my game and say you know the story needs work but at least the gameplay is fun and replayable I have that as something to fall back on. I know people will say not all games focus on gameplay and your right. Take undertale as an example but I will say this your making a big risk because if your characters or story doesn’t work what do you have to rely on if that doesn’t work? I feel more motivated to keep improving now than I have ever before. My second game I know people won’t expect much from it because of my experience but that gives me the opportunity to surprise everyone to show what I’m truly capable of and that’s what I plan to do. Lastly I want to show my perspective on audiences in this industry what do all audiences have in common? At the end of the day they all are gamers. Gamers who enjoy different genres how I visualize this is a giant circle and inside is multiple smaller circles. I may have a game that focuses on one of these circles but I want other gamers to see it and be like you know what I’ll give it a try it looks fun. Sorry for the long post happy to share my mindset.🙂

How do you make a montage of bulletpoints engaging to watch? My review of the Supergiant Games' Hades II Early Access Showcase trailer explores how the order of the bulletpoints puts the most critical information at the front for both new fans and old. Meanwhile, the interweaving of music, graphics, gameplay and judicious use of dialogue keeps the pace up across the nearly 3 minute runtime!
