🌌 Ottawa’s Space Technology Laboratory to Close Doors After 52 Years... The Canadian Space Agency | Agence spatiale canadienne (CSA) has recently announced the closure of a significant landmark in space technology - the David Florida Laboratory (DFL) in Ottawa. This decision comes after a remarkable 52-year journey in advancing space exploration. Key Highlights: The DFL, a global symbol for simulating extreme space conditions, contributed immensely to projects like the Canadarm and U.S. space shuttle missions. Closure reflects an industry shift with private companies increasingly establishing their own space tech facilities. Tyler Chamberlin and Michael Graham, industry experts, shed light on this trend and its implications. With 34 employees, the laboratory will gradually cease operations by March 2025, signifying a pivotal shift in Canada’s space industry landscape. As we witness the closure of this iconic facility, it's crucial to ponder: How will Canada’s role in the global space sector evolve in this new era dominated by private enterprises? https://lnkd.in/etnRQ-bw #CanadianSpaceAgency #SpaceExploration #IndustryShift #Innovation

Attending the Space Comm Expo in Farnborough was a remarkable journey, not just through the corridors of innovation but into the heart of collaboration that defines the future of space exploration. As CEO of Advanced Rocket Technologies my focus is on bridging the UK and Middle East's space and educational sectors. Our mission? Democratize space access, catalyzing innovation and learning across borders. Our discussions focused on the symbiosis of technological advancements and educational outreach, underscoring our belief that the future of space is not only about reaching new heights but ensuring those heights are accessible to all. This expo has been a significant milestone in our quest to launch the first Middle Eastern rocket, marking a historic step forward in the global space narrative. We're not just aiming for the stars; we're working to bring them within reach of the next generation of dreamers, engineers, and explorers. #spacecommexpo2024 #AdvancedRocketTechnologies #UKSpaceSector #EducationalOutreach #MiddleEasternLaunch #SpaceExplorationForAll

Ambitious Space Industrial Plan Announced by the UK Science Minister at Space-Comm Expo... At the recent Space Comm Expo in Farnborough, UK Science Minister Andrew Griffith announced the launch of the ambitious Space Industrial Plan (SIP). This strategic blueprint is set to revolutionize the UK's space sector. Here's what you need to know: 💷 A significant £250,000 boost for Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL), enhancing UK satellite manufacturing capabilities. 🤝 Developed in partnership with the UK Ministry of Defence, the SIP aligns perfectly with the National Space Strategy, aiming to bolster growth and resilience in the space sector. 🌍 The Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit (C-LEO) programme, a standout initiative with a £160 million investment, is geared towards transforming 5G and broadband coverage nationwide. 🔭 SSTL's new Research and Development Imager Cleanroom in Guildford marks a step forward in advancing space-based imaging technology. 🗣️ Minister Griffith emphasizes the SIP's crucial role in not only fostering innovation but also in ensuring long-term sustainability for the UK's space exploration efforts. John Hanley of UKspace underscores the need for a strategic partnership with the government to harness the full potential of space exploration and industrial growth. What does this mean for the future of the UK in the global space arena? https://lnkd.in/eysVRCDS #SpaceIndustry #UKSpaceSector #Innovation #SpaceExploration #SSTL #CLEOProgramme

Fantastic to see Hon Judith Collins KC, NZ's first Space Minister, celebrate the NZ Space Industry at a recent event. The UK & NZ have common interests in space innovation, from the responsible use of space to collaborations like Rocket Lab's launches of Scotland's Alba Orbital's cluster of satellites to demonstrate innovative #EarthObservation tech. People outside NZ are often amazed that NZ is now in the top 4 countries for space launch. Equally, the UK's vibrant space sector, now generating over £17.5 billion per year and employing nearly 49,000 people, is often overlooked. This week, the UK Space Agency announced a new Headquarters at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus strengthening ties with the commercial space industry. It's fitting that RAL Space, STFC's ‘Space Department’, are also on the Harwell Campus. The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) is one of the UK's national scientific research laboratories, and named after the Kiwi Nobel Prize winner Ernest Rutherford and the British Nobel Prize Winner Edward Appleton. The UK Space Agency and RAL Space are part of a thriving space cluster of over 100 organisations on site. Harwell Campus hosts one of the largest space clusters in Europe and aids in the growth of space-related organisations through its scale-up and accelerator programme, the ESA-BIC UK. I'm hopeful that our shared scientific heritage can be the platform for new collaborations. Here's to new horizons for old friends. #space #internationalrelations #innovation https://lnkd.in/ghmuks8c
