Thank you, DDR&D (MAFAT) - Directorate of Defense Research & Development, Colonel Nir Weingold 🇮🇱, Dekel Yakobovich🇮🇱, for inviting me to be on the industry panel of the Israeli Defense Tech Conference. It was a true privilege to join defense startup founders, industry leaders, investors, and innovators at this very special event, this is another step in strengthening the fusion between the vibrant “startup nation” and the actual needs of defense world. The discussions were a timely reminder of the strengths of the Israeli ecosystem as a global “early bird”, coupled with the need to inject funding to fuel Israeli startups to keep innovating in this space, it seems that we are on the right way. I've attended a "water and oil" of all modern conferences... ...and that's amazing. Often, we don't think of business, technology, and start-ups as sharing space with art, design, and aesthetics. But when these fields come together, they create a powerful "emulsion" — a medium that amplifies the best of both worlds. I had the pleasure of attending a remarkable event called "START" hosted by AIN and the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts. It brought together 60 speakers who covered topics as diverse as the digital transformation of public services, investment in start-ups, defense technology, and the role of art in business, military, and modern society. The event offered to me and my colleagues countless insights, but I offer to you just one: - despite the ongoing war, brave Ukraine is emerging as a global leader in gov-tech, defense-tech, and military-tech. This pioneering spirit, blending technological innovation with creativity, sets a unique path for the future of these fields. Be brave. #Ukraine #technology #innovation #business #startup

🔫 Innovations in defence have never been more relevant. As the war rages on in Ukraine, the Baltic States in particular have turned their focus to lending their resources to supporting Ukraine. The innovations ecosystem is no different. With a plethora of initiatives, some that stretch many years, others that just recently have developed, and others yet that fall in the dual-use category, there are many innovators taking part in the DefenceTech ecosystem. To gain an overview of the state of DefenceTech in Latvia, we pulled together all known (to us) DefenceTech initiatives. Do you know of other DefenceTech initiatives that should be included? Help us map the DefenceTech ecosystem, leave us a comment below! 👇 #DefenceTech #startinlatvia #startinlv

🚀 Big news in the defence tech world! NATO has just closed a ground-breaking $1 billion Innovation Fund to back start-ups addressing defence and security challenges. 🌐💡 This multi-sovereign venture fund, the first of its kind, includes investments from 23 member states and will target early-stage start-ups working on crucial technologies like quantum sciences, AI, and biotech. With the ongoing technological arms race and the conflict in Ukraine, this fund is set to bolster innovation and enhance security for NATO's one billion citizens. 🛡️ This initiative also includes the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), which will support start-ups developing dual-use technologies for both civilian and military applications. This is a major step forward in fostering collaboration and innovation across borders. 🌍🤝 What are your thoughts? The BattleLab team attended the Future Forces Demo Day event last week. The opening Workshop involved set-ups by Richard Pass, Nick Cowley, Blythe Crawford CBE, Dina Kakaras and Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, before attendees grouped into mixed industry rooms to work through some of the current challenges faced by Defence, VCs, Startups, Academia and "others". The second day involved showcases from all the Innovators and defence organisations. It was fantastic to be able to look around the room and identify so many people that had been to the BattleLab to collaborate. We were able to catch up with many of them and follow their good news journeys from entering the facility to being offered contracts and opportunities for further collaboration and development. It is Brilliant to see so many passionate and innovative people wanting to make change to how we develop capabilities that are built to be operationally ready at the point of acceptance. The Battlelab was mentioned several times, and it surprised attendees that we have already done many of the things that they saw as workable solutions. Like every organisation, we work within certain constraints, but we know that collaboration is key, and it guides everything we do to ensure Defence Personnel get their problems heard. A fantastic venue at the MTC - Manufacturing Technology Centre, and it may be interesting to know that the example provided at the start of the MTCs brief on Project Apollo is work that British Army Innovation, Battlelab and a Defence Person are currently developing with the MTC team and Dstl. We are still working through all the new contacts we made, and we look forward to welcoming a load more organisations that are excited about the collaborative possibilities available at the BattleLab. Remember if you have good news for us to share from your interactions at the BattleLab we would love to hear from you! #futureforcesdemoday #battlelab #ministryofdefence #britisharmy #royalairforce #royalnavy #comercialx #innovation #vc #startup #technology #defence #dstl #mtc

It was an honor to be a speaker at Defense Tech Valley, BRAVE1's conference in Kyiv last week. The audience was the who's who of defense tech innovation in Ukraine. Over this past weekend, fifteen more companies applied to MITS Accelerator (operated jointly by MITS Capital and American University Kyiv)--we will struggle to meet demand. The key points I made at the conference: -- The West needs Ukraine. While the US/EU are the high-cost producers of arms compared to China/Iran/Russia, Ukraine is the lowest-cost producer of arms in the free world. -- Ukraine has quickly developed a well-deserved reputation as the most innovative nation in drone technology -- Only in Ukraine is real-time innovation possible. Ukraine offers a unique combination of innovative weaponry, innovative tactics, and an adaptive organizational structure in a constant feedback loop that optimizes the deployment of weapons to achieve mission objectives. If you are a defense tech investor wanting to get involved where innovation occurs, DM me. MITS Capital is drinking at the fire hydrant of deal flow.
