Did you know 1 in 2 families experience diaper shortages in the U.S.? Our Raleigh team recently volunteered with the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, an organization that makes a real difference for women, children and seniors. We joined forces to wrap diaper packs that are ready to be distributed across the state to families in need. This is especially important as our community is still recovering from the impact of Hurricane Helene. Thank you to our team members who put in the time and energy this week to give back!

Helping folks in need is part of what we do.
Recently, some of our Steritech Specialists helped our partners at Denny's serve hot breakfasts to folks in the community of Asheville, NC, a town devastated by Hurricane Helene. The Denny's Mobile Diner broke an all-time record, serving over 3,000 meals to folks still recovering from the impacts of the hurricane and thanks to these guys, Steritech was a part of serving this deserving community! 💙 #SteritechConnects

In light of the increasing frequency of natural disasters, Walmart's recent initiative to deploy disaster response mobile units is commendable. These units, operated by skilled nonprofit professionals, have already significantly impacted Northwest Arkansas, offering essential services like hot meals, clean laundry, hot showers, and charging stations with Wi-Fi. Walmart's proactive approach, driven by a strong sense of corporate responsibility, provides immediate relief and strengthens community resilience, demonstrating the power of businesses in action. This is a prime example of how companies can make a meaningful difference and build stronger connections with the communities they serve. As businesses, if we promote initiatives that help communities thrive, we contribute to those communities' social and economic well-being, build a more substantial, loyal base, and create a positive impact that enhances our corporate reputation. #business #community #companies #RSE #social #responsibility

By mid-October, more than 300 have already been caused by hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin. The deadliest has been Helene but seven other named storms have claimed lives since June. No one was expecting to have to deal with major medical bills or a funeral in October – not from a hurricane like Helene. And yet, over 300 families and counting have had to plan for #unexpectedfunerals this year. Countless more are facing potentially major medical bills from storm injuries. We hate to see people have to use fundraising platforms like Go Fund Me when tragedy hits. That’s why we created Go Fund My Life. So every family can take care of their emergencies with dignity – and affordably. NOW is the time to prepare before the next storm hits. See how: gofundmylife.com

Tuesday evening, about an hour before sunset, and we still remain in the calm before hurricane Milton comes ashore sometime late tomorrow on the West Coast of Florida. Now is not the time to become complacent, this storm can slow down or speed up, it can veer a little to the south or it could move to the north overnight. It’s only until we get into tomorrow that we will really have a good idea of exactly where the storm will make landfall. For those of us in Florida the time to provision is pretty much over, last minute storm preparation through the evening and into tomorrow morning is advised. 48 hours from now, some of us will have power and life will go on more or less normally while a significant number of our fellow Floridians are going to be struggling in blackout conditions, with no power and no air conditioning, in 90% humidity and 90° temperatures, food supplies thawing out and starting to go bad, water in the home, debris scattered around the yards and neighborhoods, a sense of loss and hopelessness as mother nature takes away our perceived control over our lives. This is when we as a community must come together to help those that are less fortunate than ourselves. I think it’s safe to say we can’t depend on our federal government/FEMA for immediate assistance and relief. We will need to depend upon our neighbors, upon our families, upon our communities to be self-sufficient and help those in need. Once the storm passes if you feel compelled to help and make donations, I recommend you donate to local churches and the international Red Cross. #disasterrelief #floridastrong #hurricanemilton #winningtogether #yachtingusa #maritimeindustry #yachtingindustry

Consider lending a hand
Raised in Black Mountain and a proud App State alumnus, Regan Booth saw the destruction left by Hurricane Helene and knew she wanted to come help people impacted by the storm in western North Carolina. “Growing up here, it’s so beautiful,” said Regan. “And the people are so genuine, and I just felt so helpless not doing anything. It was really important to me to come and help my own community.” Although she had never volunteered with the Red Cross before, she signed up to be a local community volunteer and quickly was put to work on a feeding route alongside an experienced Red Cross responder, Vivian Moy. They were sent to the Ingles location in Marion, North Carolina and she served hot meals to people who didn’t have access to them at home due to storm damage. “It was actually very healing to get out there and help your own community. You find people who are going through the exact same thing and a lot of people just want to be heard and they want to tell you their story. It was healing to just listen to people and hear their experience.” You can put on a red vest just like Regan. On the heels of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, we know impacted communities face a long road of rebuilding and recovery. And for our neighbors experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, particularly for those who are Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, the path to recovery is faced with additional hardships and disparities. Philanthropy has an obligation to address the both/and of short-term needs to provide safety and protection for people who have been impacted and the long-term response aimed at rebuilding in ways that prioritize the needs of those who are left out of equitable access to recovery efforts. Funders Together is compiling responses and resources by and for those involved in the work for housing justice and intersection movements to inform philanthropy's work in supporting a just recovery: https://lnkd.in/gN7nqhyP
