There are some very welcome recommendations outlined in this report!🙌 In particular, we're glad to see a call for investment in early language "at the earliest opportunity". 🚨 Today, the Oracy Education Commission has published its report, 'We Need To Talk.' 📒 The report’s recommendations include:  1️⃣ investing in early language to reduce language inequities at the earliest opportunity; and 2️⃣ requiring teacher training and development to include understanding of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and strategies to support children with these needs throughout their education. 📢 The Royal College Of Speech and Language Therapists welcomes the report and supports its recommendations. ✅ The report underscores the critical importance of communication skills for children and young people. ✅ We are very pleased that the Oracy Education Commission emphasises the need for inclusive oracy education for all pupils, including those who communicate differently. 📢 We urge the Department for Education to integrate oracy into teacher training and development, with a focus on speech, language, and communication needs and strategies to support these children throughout their education. 🙏 Massive thanks to my colleague, Caroline Wright, for all she has done on this and to our colleagues at Voice 21 UK, including Amy Gaunt and Rebekah Simon-Caffyn, for working with us on these issues since we first started discussing them with Beccy Earnshaw back in 2022. 🙏 Thanks too to those who took part in a roundtable for the Commission including Speech and Language UK's Jane Harris and Louisa Reeves, the Disabled Children's Partnership's Stephen Kingdom, Action for Stammering Children's Ria Bernard, the National Deaf Children's Society's Emma Fraser, Commtap CIC's Neil Thompson, NAPLIC's Mary Jo Spearey, AFASIC's Linda Lascelles, Ambitious about Autism's Jolanta Lasota, and to the commissioners who listened and engaged with the issue. #Oracy #SLCN #SpokenLanguage #Education #OracyEducationCommission #Speech #Language #Communication #EarlyLanguage #Inclusion #SLPeeps #SpeechAndLanguageTherapy https://lnkd.in/e5N3y-MG
