I might have made the wrong choice Yesterday was a 22 hour on the road day, leaving the house at 5:30 AM and hitting Batley, Leeds, Bradford, Liverpool, Leeds (again), Harrogate and eventually back to Huddersfield at around 3 AM. I have originally planned 2 events, but ended up to 4. Or maybe 3 and a half. I'll start with missing out on most of the Silicon Yorkshire event at Carousel Bar Leeds and while Jonny Clark was the best host, as always, for the Startup Grind, and the pitches were interesting, Silicon Yorkshire should have won the vote on the scale. Now, of course, I have met loads of people at Startup Grind, will post all about that soon, so it WAS a good event on it's own. There are always choices in life, events, business. I won't turn this into a business lesson, but for me it will be a decision standard for the future. You can only try your best at any given time, and if it's not enough, next time you can be sure it will be better. I got to Carousel Bar Leeds after all, just in time to see all the gang, obviously and have some good catch-ups and a good time with them, but that was towards the end of the day. Was great to catch up and jam out with Drew Boyles, Mayor of El Segundo and repeat entrepreneur... Drew and the City of El Segundo have been huge partners of Swoop, Inc. as we've launched several city-wide transportation/shuttle programs. Though we spent considerable time discussing our partnership, I'm drawn to understanding the life experiences that help forge a person's character...Some highlights from our chat: 🚌 Proud of our partnership in rolling out Swoop, Inc.'s city-wide transportation solutions—aimed at efficient mobility & reducing carbon emissions. 💡 Key takeaway from our discussion: the importance of learning from both successes & failures (mostly failures). 🚀 Learning from Failure: Post-grad school, Drew and two others purchased several dry cleaners as the industry is super fragmented. With a rollup they generated significant marketshare, but no matter how successful they were at 'business' they all lacked the 'operator mindset' — crucial for both starting and running successful businesses, eventually folding the endeavor. 📈 Drew's 'operator-first' approach has fueled his current ventures, including HazAwayToday.com, Endless Pursuit Corporation and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? 🌟 Excited about future collaborations & sharing more battle stories
