Institute of Solids Process Engineering and Particle Technology, Hamburg University of Technology’s Post

🎉 Exciting news! The RTG Climate-Informed Engineering has been approved by the DFG, and we are thrilled to be part of this groundbreaking initiative in Research Area B4: "Climate-dependency of food powder storage and processing." 🌍📊 We extend our heartfelt thanks to Nima Shokri (Speaker) and irina smirnova (Deputy Speaker) for their outstanding effort in successfully submitting the proposal. Your dedication has paved the way for innovative research at the intersection of climate and engineering. 🙏 We look forward to the official project launch and the collaborative opportunities it will bring! 🚀 Here's to advancing knowledge and driving impactful solutions together. 💡🔗

We have received approximately 7 million euros in research funding from DFG! I am pleased to announce that our RTG proposal on Climate-Informed Engineering has been successfully funded by the DFG! We have secured approximately 7 million euros for this project. We introduced the concept of Climate-Informed Engineering first in an invited article, which made it to the cover of the ACS Engineering AU in 2023 (the photo below). This paper formed the foundation of our proposal. We plan to recruit 20 PhD candidates in this project along with a postdoc researcher. This project holds significant importance for us at Hamburg University of Technology, as it aligns with the research direction of TUHH and the focus of the United Nations University Hub at TUHH on Engineering to Face Climate Change. As John F. Kennedy once said, “Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan”. So, I cannot announce this great news without acknowledging the incredible individuals who made this possible. First and foremost, I owe immense gratitude to my lifelong friend, companion, and wife, Dr. Salome Michelle Sophie Shokri-Kuehni. Living with someone who works around the clock is not easy task, yet she has been nothing short of amazing. Salome has shouldered countless responsibilities, allowing me to pursue ambitious goals with determination. Her patience, strength and wisdom have provided a solid foundation upon which I could aim for the highest goal I could possibly ever imagine. Special thanks also go to the PIs of the project including Peter Fröhle, Stefan Heinrich, Cathy Hohenegger, Patrick Huber, Andreas Liese, Thomas Rung, Marcus Rutner, Michael Schlüter, Kay Smarsly, irina smirnova, and Bjorn Stevens. Their dedication was essential for sharpening and strengthening the project's focus. The support from The United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) and their interest in contributing to the training and supervision plans are greatly appreciated. Also, this project could never have reached this level without the support of my team at the Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics. Moreover, I am grateful for the extraordinary support from the TUHH leadership—at a level I have never seen elsewhere—including our visionary President Andreas Timm-Giel, our pragmatic and dedicated Chancellor Mr. Arne Burda, our incredibly proactive and decisive Vice President for Research irina smirnova, and the consistently supportive Vice President for Teaching Wolfgang Kersten. Additionally, I would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Science & Research, particularly Ms. Katharina Fegebank, the Minister and the Second Mayor of #Hamburg, for their consistent support of TUHH and its growth phase. Their support has enabled us to develop new ideas and conduct cutting-edge research at TUHH. And finally, I would like to thank Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation for enabling us to bring our ideas to life.
