❇️ From #Pompei to #NewMurabba: A Journey Through Time and Innovation As I reflect on the ancient ruins of #Pompei alongside the ambitious development of #NewMurabba in Riyadh, I'm struck by the profound influence of urban planning and architecture through the ages. *️⃣ #Pompei: (Please refer to it by the correct name, #Pompei, without the second final 'i' to show respect for the Italian language, which is one of the most complete in the world!) A Snapshot of History #Pompei, once a bustling Roman city, now stands as a remarkable testament to the ingenuity and resilience of ancient civilizations. Its well preserved ruins provide invaluable insights into the daily lives, culture, and urban design of its time. The intricate mosaics, grand amphitheaters, and lively marketplaces narrate the story of a city that was both vibrant and sophisticated. *️⃣ #NewMurabba: Shaping the Future In stark contrast, we have #NewMurabba an ambitious mixed-use development project in Riyadh, part of #SaudiArabia’s #Vision2030 initiative. This modern marvel is set to create a new city district that seamlessly blends state-of-the-art technology, sustainability, and cultural enrichment. With iconic features like #TheMukaab, a striking 400-meter cuboid skyscraper, along with expansive residential, commercial, and entertainment spaces, #NewMurabba is poised to redefine urban living and establish new benchmarks for contemporary cityscapes. *️⃣ Bridging the Past and the Future Both #Pompei and #NewMurabba exemplify the timeless human endeavor to build communities that reflect our values, aspirations, and technological advancements. Fortunately, #NewMurabba is not located near any volcanoes, eliminating the risk of volcanic eruptions. From the grandeur of an ancient Italian city to the future of a modern district in #Riyadh. While #Pompei encapsulates the essence of a bygone era, #NewMurabba embodies our vision of a future where innovation and tradition coexist harmoniously. As we look ahead, let’s draw inspiration from history and champion visionary projects like #NewMurabba that aim to create a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous world. Remaining Things by #TeoYang for Gallery COLLECTIONAL, part of Urban Fabric Series 001. Seoul is in constant motion. The traditional Korean housing vernacular known as 'hanok' began to disappear in the late 1900s, leaving only small clusters in today's larger South Korean cities. Reflecting on this cultural legacy, Teo Yang explores innovative responses to the evolving cityscape by creating objects that reinterpret architectural remnants, aiming to preserve their significance while adapting them for contemporary use and contributing to the ongoing narrative of urban transformation. Yang utilises a mix of modern materials such as glass, rubber, marble, and veneer to transform architectural remnants into new forms with symbolic continuity to their heritage. These materials serve as the reconstructed framework and façade of the original structures, maintaining their philosophical underpinnings while embracing novel aesthetics and functionalities. #remainingthings #easternedition #collectibledesign #urbanfabric #dubai

Jeddah’s Historic District Celebrates 10 Years on UNESCO World Heritage List 🇸🇦 The Jeddah Historic District marked a significant milestone with the celebration of its 10th anniversary since being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014. This recognition underscores its exceptional cultural and urban heritage, affirming its place among the world’s most cherished historic sites. Spanning 2.5 square kilometers along the picturesque Red Sea coast, Historic Jeddah has been a focal point of cultural and economic exchange for over thirteen centuries. Originally serving as a pivotal port for pilgrims journeying to Makkah and a pivotal hub for global trade routes between Asia and Africa since the 7th century, the district holds a rich tapestry of historical significance. Preservation and Regeneration Efforts The journey towards UNESCO recognition has been guided by meticulous efforts aimed at preserving and revitalizing the district’s unique architectural and cultural heritage. The Jeddah Historic District Program, launched to oversee these endeavors, has not only safeguarded the area’s historical character but also positioned it as a beacon of Saudi Vision 2030’s cultural aspirations. UNESCO Criteria and Significance UNESCO’s decision to inscribe Historic Jeddah was based on three fundamental criteria: its role as a testament to human interaction and cultural exchange over time, its exceptional architectural ensemble that represents Islamic urban design, and its association with significant historical events and traditions. These elements collectively highlight its outstanding universal value. Challenges and Achievements Despite facing challenges such as deteriorating infrastructure and the need for extensive restoration of centuries-old buildings, the program has successfully implemented a comprehensive regeneration plan. This plan has revitalized markets, squares, streets, mosques, and residential buildings while maintaining the district’s authentic ambiance through the use of traditional materials and adherence to original building heights. Pillars of Restoration Central to the restoration efforts are four main pillars: intangible cultural heritage, archaeology and excavation (including the preservation of walls and historic gates), urban fabric (enhancement of markets, squares, and streets), and historic buildings (preservation of houses, mosques, and endowments). These pillars serve as the foundation for sustaining the district’s identity and charm for future generations. Cultural and Touristic Magnet The transformation of Historic Jeddah into a global tourist destination has been a testament to the success of these efforts. It was an absolute honor to participate in a pivotal moment at the Grand Egyptian Museum, where I joined the esteemed Professor Nicolai de Gier for a thought-provoking panel discussion on “Design Industry in Egypt: Challenges, Opportunities, and Thinking Glocal.” This conversation wasn’t just about design—it was about redefining how we merge Egypt’s rich cultural heritage with global innovation to tackle modern challenges. Together, we explored: • How to bridge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary global trends. • The pivotal role of sustainable and circular design in shaping our industry’s future. • Strategies for leveraging design to preserve culture while driving economic and creative growth. Being in the heart of such an iconic venue, surrounded by centuries of artistry, reminded me of the timeless power of design to connect the past, present, and future. It was a privilege to share insights, exchange ideas, and imagine the possibilities of a truly “glocal” design. #DesignIndustry #GlocalDesign #SustainableInnovation #EgyptianDesign #GrandEgyptianMuseum #PanelDiscussion #FurnitureDesign #ProductDesign

Imagine the serene evening skyline of Dubai, with the Wasl Tower glowing like a jewel against the fading light. Suddenly, UFOs descend from the heavens, their glowing beams striking the tower with terrifying precision. The once-pristine ceramic facade begins to crack and shatter, sending fiery debris tumbling to the streets below. Alien creatures crawl along the giant facade, their grotesque forms clinging to the tower as they scale its heights. Their howls echo through the skyscraper, blending with the roar of flames consuming its edges. The Wasl Tower, a symbol of human achievement, becomes a battleground, its walls bearing the scars of an alien apocalypse. What if, in this moment, humanity’s greatest creation faced its darkest test? Wasl Group UNStudio Disclaimer: This post is purely fictional and created for entertainment purposes only.
