🤟 Celebrate Deaf Awareness Week with us! 🤟 Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing tips and information around how you can become more aware about the Deaf community and build a more inclusive society! 💫 💬 Tip 1: Communication is key to human connection. To foster inclusivity and empathy, it's vital to communicate effectively with Deaf individuals. Here are some powerful tips: • Try and find out the deaf person’s preferred method of communication – every person has different preferences and needs. • Wave to make eye contact and keep your face and mouth clearly visible. • Repeat once or twice – if the person still doesn’t understand, try rephrasing. • Use clear speech, mime and gesture. #DeafAwarenessWeek #DeafCommunity #SignVideo

This week is Deaf Awareness Week. I am lucky to work with Deaf business owners on (the marketing-side). Here are just three important things to remember when you meet a Deaf person. 1. Don’t be frightened (sadly my Deaf friends/colleagues say this still come across this) 2. Look at them and not the interpreter (who’s there for you, not them). 3. Speak normally. There are lots of other Deaf Awareness tips I haven’t shared. There is a wealth of talent in the Deaf community. Communication shouldn’t and mustn’t be a barrier. - Behind me are just of the organisations my Deaf clients are working with. #DeafAwarenessWeek #DeafAwareness

Brand new research released for Deaf Awareness Week reveals the knowledge gap of what deaf children can achieve. A public survey from YouGov shows that more than a quarter (28%) of UK adults believe it is not possible for a child born profoundly deaf today to learn to speak as well as a hearing child. But we know it is possible! With early and effective support from Auditory Verbal therapy, deaf children can learn to speak like their hearing peers. Early and effective support to develop language and communication is vital for all deaf children, whether their families choose to communicate with spoken language, sign language or both. Join us this week as we challenge the current knowledge gap and help raise expectations of what deaf children can do and achieve! Take the quiz to test your knowledge and learn more: https://lnkd.in/ecih6pUB #DeafAwarenessWeek #DeafChildren

Deaf Awareness Week takes place between the 6th to the 12th of May. Let us take this time to celebrate our deaf community, raise awareness, and spread inclusivity! Here are A2i's top three tips for Deaf Awareness Week: 1. Find out communication preferences. Before your expected meeting, learn the individual's requirements and their preferred communication support. 2. Get the individual's attention before you speak. Try move into good lighting so they can see you, wave your hand in their line of vision, or lightly tap their shoulder. 3. Always face the individual. Communicate face-to-face and keep eye contact. This will help the person lip read and see your facial expressions if they need to. Learn more tips from our blog https://lnkd.in/e8Q2uih5 #DeafAwarenessWeek #DiversityInclusion #a11y #bsl

Deaf Awareness Week Tip #7: As we approach the last day of Deaf Awareness Week, let's remember that awareness and inclusivity should extend beyond this week. How can we ensure inclusivity and support for individuals with different abilities affected by deafness every day? By nurturing a culture of accessibility and understanding in our communities and workplaces. This includes providing resources like sign language interpreters, captioning, and assistive technologies, as well as promoting education and awareness about deafness and communication needs. Let's commit to making inclusivity a daily practice, not just for this week, but every day of the year. #DeafAwarenessWeek Google search - @timscannellDA

September is Deaf Awareness month... Can a Deaf person be told they don't have Deaf culture or lack knowledge on Deaf culture? The answer is NO! Deaf culture is a part of who we are, and our experiences and identity are valid. No one can dictate or gatekeep your cultural identity or experiences. Of course, we have prominent Deaf leaders who have paved the way and set precedents on the outlook of Deaf culture which we respect and honor. However, their leadership and legacy is there to inspire and empower, NOT DICTATE, how individual Deaf people live their lives. Deaf culture is not a one-size-fits-all. It's a culture shaped by diverse experiences, perspectives, and identities. Respect the uniqueness of each Deaf individual's journey! #Deafawarenessmonth #DeafCulture #DeafIdentity #DeafPride #DeafEmpowerment
