#friday_focus_by_spmesm (218) - "This is the first Diwali in last 15 years that we’re celebrating with true joy!” Sayaji (name changed) became an addict of Alcohol 15 years ago. His health, finances and relations were tarnished. The family also had to go through a lot of sufferings. They went from pillar to post to free him off the addiction but all in vain! Couple of years ago, SPMESM’s Arunodaya Mental Health Project was started in their village. Along with other addicts, Team Arunodaya provided treatment and rigorous counseling support to Sayaji. After 8/9 months’ efforts Sayaji finally could free himself from the vicious cycle of the addiction. More than a year now, he has remained away from alcohol which is a major victory for him! When Arunodaya team met his wife in a routine visit recently, she shared the feelings with tearful eyes! Sayaji now has regained his communication powers, too. A good example of it- he single handedly convinced all 30 Manas Mitras (Mental Health Volunteers of 30 villages) to enrol themselves to Postal Life Insurance Policy! Arunoday Mental Health Project is working hard to improve the mental health status and de- addiction. Thanks to Wipro Foundation for their ardent support! #Arunoday_Mental_Health #mental_health

"In an interesting conversation with my cousin, she mentioned the idea of requiring life and health insurance coverage for grooms before marriage. This forward-thinking approach highlights a growing awareness of financial security and well-being in marriage planning—a shift from tradition to long-term protection and stability. It’s inspiring to see how the new generation is prioritizing health and financial security as essential foundations for a strong future.Wishing you and your loved ones a bright, joyful, and prosperous Diwali filled with health, happiness, and success!" #healthinsurance #futuregeneration #futureplanning #diwali #youth #linkedin

Everyone comes to a point in life when you are expected to evolve make the right choices and follow the right paths after good thinking. No matter who you are, or what your social or financial background is, you are inevitably going to face a crisis in life. It could be a serious health issue, a financial struggle, or emotional trauma. The trick is to see this crisis as an opportunity for growth, as opposed to an obstacle. Well, it is observed, that when you are in crisis, many known people move away from you and sometimes you feel you are left alone to suffer. As humans, we become very complacent about life. There are certain changes we need to make in our life, which doesn't happen unless we get a rude shock in our life. It is also observed most people stay self-absorbed and may have little time to listen to others when things are normal. But you will agree during any serious crisis you need to bring in positive changes physically, mentally, as well as spiritually. Then probably we can call this a blessing as you have taken a decision to change. This will also help you to rediscover yourself as you will have enough time for self-reflection. :- Ronald Mendonca, Career Coach @Smart Solutions Mangalore #overcomeadversity #crisisteaches #strenghthenyourself

🔊 Today, I feel compelled to share something deeply personal and urgently relevant about the mental health crisis within our Indian Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces. I am duty bound as an #ARMYBRAT and a #SuicideLossSurvivor! 📢 This isn’t just another issue—it’s a ticking time bomb. No matter which branch or unit they serve in, the human factor—the struggles, the pain, the silent cries for help—remains the same. 🎤 We can’t afford to hide behind statistics in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha anymore. Yes, we hear the numbers—how many suicides, how many lives lost over the past five years. But what those cold figures don’t reveal is the terrifying reality behind them. 🔔 Let me make this more real for you. Imagine a Special Forces (Para) soldier, stationed at the very heart of our nation's defense, South Block, reaching out—pleading for suicide prevention awareness and training. He’s not just asking for himself; he’s begging for his brothers-in-arms. He knows the stakes are life and death. Or consider a CISF employee, on duty at an International Airport, who confided that just a year ago, he was a trigger pull away from ending his own life. He shared this not to shock, but because he knew he needed help—and he’s not alone. And then, there’s the horrific case of Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister, gunned down by his own former personal security officer (PSO). This isn’t just a tragedy—it’s a catastrophic failure to address the mental health needs of those who are sworn to protect us. The PSO, someone trusted with the minister’s life, was battling demons that no one saw—until it was too late. 📞 These stories are not exceptions; they are the haunting reality of what’s happening across our forces. Our soldiers, our officers, the very people who protect our nation with their lives, suffering in silence, and when they finally cry out for help—Are We Listening? 🎹 Are we truly hearing their desperation, or are we too wrapped up in statistics and reports to see the human cost? This is not just a matter of policy or procedure; this is a matter of life and death. We need to be able to look beyond the Statistics as any Intelligence (Artificial or Natural) would demand!!! 👨🏼✈️ 👮🏼♂️ 👩🏼✈️ 👮🏼♀ 🎖 💕 PLEASE LISTEN LINK - https://lnkd.in/g_etqYyF -English 💞 PLEASE LISTEN LINK - https://lnkd.in/gKwkNsCu -Hindi The Connect Hut Suicide Prevention Awareness and Training on Kargil Divas received a resounding feedback from Army Welfare Education Society Army Public School (APS). Hope the Supreme Court of India Ministry of Defence of India Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence,India Ministry Of Home Affairs (mha), GOI Ministry of Home Affairs are Listening !!!

What are Dharma and Adharma? Can We Define Them Unambiguously? Krishna had said that dharma and adharma are too complex to define. Consider the following incident from America: A woman was fired from her job due to company downsizing, losing her health insurance in the process. As a single mother with a four-year-old daughter, she had no savings and was burdened with credit card debt. Soon after, she fell ill with severe back pain, and medical reports revealed a knee problem that required immediate surgery; without it, she faced a painful death within a month. Heartbroken and deeply concerned for her young daughter, she devised a desperate plan. The next day, she attempted to rob a bank, was arrested, and taken to prison. Ironically, as an inmate, she gained access to government health insurance. During her medical examination, doctors recommended immediate spine surgery, ultimately saving her life. She knew she would be released from prison in a few years to reunite with her daughter. Now, the question arises: Was her action of robbing a bank fall under dharma or adharma? Please share your thoughts in the comment section. #rightwrong #ethics #survivalstrategy #health #fearofdeath

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗙***𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 Dear Lions One of the best advice I ever got from my Guru was this. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗙***𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 This ranks among my favorite phrases (you know my mantras such as Work Hard Success is Yours, Why?, Everyone has a weapon, This too shall pass, etc) and has been a go to phrase when in a dilemma or I start thinking the below. What am I doing wrong? Am i wrong(self doubt) or I did everything right. But did not get success. (denial) or My friend who did nothing got ***. (comparison) or If i had got a chance, I would have succeeded. (denial) ... The answer I tell myself is 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗙***𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 . Get back to reality. Why? There was a time before VIT B when I had applied to 4-5 places and did not get any response. I was a bit upset and started in stage 1 (doubting myself) then moved to stage 2 (blaming others). Luckily my guru (wife) caught me before stage 3 (anger) or stage 4 (depresssion) or stage 5 (denial and depression) and said 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. Get back to reality. (In this case the reason i did get a response was that I typed my mail id wrongly in the resume.) There is so much to do. Just stop F****ing yourself and open your eyes. The eye opener can be from your own side. Or someone you trust can simply tell you the truth. Listen. Be honest to yourself. and then start working. It is never too late to start. Honesty will bite you and will hurt for a while. But self denial will hurt longer. I use my cycle to commute and did lead a healthy life style. But had a BP issue (I turned a blind eye to it) and relied on medicines. One day during blood donation in Nov, the doctor told me - sir you need to open your eyes or face a heart attack in the next 6 months. Result - The Run VIT Bhopal Run faculty group, Two open 10k runs, one 10k run (timed) and weight loss of 4 kgs. I can do more. But that blood donation around Diwali was my stop f****ing myself moment. Now in March it was very satisfying to meet the same doctor and get tested for bP during blood donation. (Her smile when she saw the BP and heard my running efforts and thanks was worth all the sweat.) In one campus drive, the HR agreed to look at genuine students who did not clear the exam. Of them one candidate came (who had a good resume). Then he said sorry sir I could not clear and left. Later the HR said sir - he had copy pasted 45% of the code in his projects and could not answer the questions. I was a bit taken aback. But happy at the feedback. Lesson learned. (When I check resumes from now, I will check the code and focus on that as well) There is so much to do dear Lions ✔ Look at your resume. ✔ Your GitHub profile. ✔ Plans and how you study ✔ Plan B and Plan C if plan A does not work. Stop fooling yourself and Start working. We can do it dear Lions. As always Work Hard - Success is yours.

I never thought it is over. I was affected by a rare neuro-related movement disorder Dystonia/Tardive Dyskinesia in the year 2019. This is a very rare disorder. The symptoms are so rare and pathetic. My upper body used to tremble backwards. And it was very difficult to handle. While walking I have to hold my neck with my hands and control my face. Only then I can walk. Even eating and drinking kind of activities were also very difficult for me. As per medical this is a non-curable disorder and may remain with you for a lifetime. We consulted different doctors but no one gave any hope. But today I am almost recovered from the disorder. Yes, I have severe back pain issues due to this disorder due to which I can’t go for a full-time office job. Neither I can travel much. Even have a bit of symptoms left. But at least I am able to get back to life. I switched to freelancing and I can work. I can ride a bike, attend events and enjoy the festivals of India from Navratri to Diwali. Honestly speaking the attitude which I carried was somewhere very responsible for my recovery. I never thought that I was not going to recover. At that time, I had to quit my full-time banking job as was not in working condition. But I somehow kept myself involved in some other activities on my laptop. I tried to get some loan leads by using FB, used to write blogs and somehow kept myself busy. If I had believed what doctors and medical said then I won’t have been able to recover. At times you may face something very tough. All rules may say that you can’t win. Everything may be against you. But if real you won’t give up then no one can stop you from winning. Your mindset and attitude are what matters in tough times. Anything tough you faced in life and won over it? Please share in the comments, would love to know your journey. It really motivates me. #motivation #medicaldisorder #postivemindset #postiveattitude #tardivedyskinesia #dystonia

India loses Rs 13.4 Lakh Crore due to suicides every year! Here are 5 shocking facts about the economic burden of suicides in India: 👉In India, 14 out of 1 Lakh people die by suicide every year. The global average of suicides in 1 Lakh people is only 9. 👉Despite having only 5% of the population, Karnataka suffers from the heaviest (20%) burden from suicides in the country which is equal to Rs 2.33 Lakh Crore. 1500+ farmers committed suicide there in the last 15 months. 👉Combining 3 states, Karnataka, Maharashtra (Rs 1.81 Lakh Crore), and Tamil Nadu (Rs 2.13 Lakh Crore) make up to 45% of India’s total suicide-related losses. 👉The most affected demographic group is aged between 20 to 34, where 53% of suicides happened. 👉Rise in suicide cases in women is also a huge setback as it is observed in 20 states and union territories. It is seen because of health issues, financial struggle and pressure from society. As National Suicide Prevention Strategy aims to reduce suicide rate by 10% through 2030, there is several steps need to be taken. For example, 1. Increase investment in mental health infrastructure. 2. Help out students and working professionals from societal pressure. 3. Relieves lower middle class from financial distress which is happening due to unemployment, climate change, poverty, high debts, and lack of social support. Today, less than 1% of India’s health budget is allocated to mental health. Recently, 26-year-old EY employee Anna Sebastian Perayil reportedly died due to a toxic work environment at EY. Her mother called out in a letter to EY India Rajiv Memani. Though it wasn’t a suicide, the reason was a similar type. There was a suicide case that happened at McKinsey & Company a few months ago because of the same reason. Though these incidents have happened multiple times, there is no permanent solution yet. It is truly important to raise the voices of these victims who are suffering from worse mental health daily basis. P.S.- There should be an employee union in the corporate space that can raise voices for traumatised employees. If not, many talents will be lost every year!🙏 Do you think a union can solve this problem? What is the major culprit behind rising suicide cases? Suicides can't be dumped as a mental health issue NCRB 2022 report points illness as cause in only 18% of suicides, there is more to it . This needs a detailed study , to determine causes and possibly reform of policies and law. The starting point should be resorting to an evidenced and impacts based approach to policy and law making and interpretation by a central legislation . The NCRB 2022 report Chapter 2 states . In 2022 1.7 Lakhs persons in India committed suicide From those figures more than 70% are men. Married men committed approx 50% of total number of suicides in 2024 , family issues and marital issues where contributors. This has to be viewed in the context men suffer from false cases, huge maintenance and alimony payouts, lack of domestic violence ,cruelty, rape laws, enter into sexual relationships on the pretext of marraige when men are affected persons. Detailed analysis of Accidental death and report on suicides 2022 gives indication of contributing reasons, this includes economic reasons as well.
