Cycling data, released by Cycling Scotland shows that cycling in various locations across Scotland is up by 30% this summer compared to last summer – a great result! And a number of these locations are where there has been significant investment in safer cycling infrastructure in recent years. This highlights how important the development of good cycling routes is, if we are to encourage people to choose using a bike over getting in their car. Through our People and Place Plan and associated grant fund, we’re supporting active travel behaviour change projects across the south east of Scotland, many of which are cycling related. We’re excited to see the impact these projects have, as we all work towards a future where active travel becomes easier and more desirable than using the car for short journeys. 👉 Find out more about our People and Place Plan: https://lnkd.in/ejF_vDZJ #Cycling #ActiveTravel #SEStran #Bike #Cycle

The global cycling community is gearing up for a truly historic event: the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, which will take place from September 21 to September 28, 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda🇷🇼. This will mark the first time the prestigious championships are held on the African continent, offering a world-class platform for elite cyclists to compete on the challenging roads of the “Land of a Thousand Hills”. With multiple climbs and high altitudes, Kigali’s terrain will push competitors to new limits. Anticipation for the event is already building in Rwanda and among competitors, who will have a chance to ride new heights and take their place in cycling history. For Rwandans, cycling is more than a sport—it is an essential part of everyday life. Across the country, bicycles serve as a primary mode of transport, helping people commute and transport goods across the hilly terrain. Visitors are often struck by the endurance and ingenuity of Rwandans who navigate the country’s roads carrying heavy loads on their bikes. The 2025 UCI Road World Championships are not just significant for Rwanda, but for the entire African continent. This event will showcase Africa’s readiness to host major international sporting events and inspire the growth of cycling across the region. ••• [RDB-Kigali]

Cycling has returned to the mid-2000s level of performance. Yes, bike technology has advanced, but safety standards have not kept up. Whenever parents or juniors approach me for training advice, I often cringe, take a deep breath, and wonder: do I really want to be involved in this? No one should die while riding a bike—whether commuting in traffic, training in an uncontrolled environment, or especially at a world championship event. I hope the UCI takes a long, hard look at how they manage risk moving forward https://lnkd.in/ght89Y9k #UCI #CyclingSafety #Cycling #RoadSafety
