Last Sunday, BrisVegas was treated to the second Springboard Opera Barefoot opera. Changing everything (Opera) into the C21 way… It was fabulous fun – kind of audience participation opera - and if you do not have a lot of opera experience, come along to the next one in Toowoomba (check out our website…) But that is not what today is about. Springboard Opera … changing everything into the C21 way… Opera in 2024 has a bit of an image problem … a bit fancy-pants and high-brow, expensive & inaccessible. So, we at Springboard have set out to change that. Barefoot Opera is … well… really affordable, has drinks, and is in the community. And lots of fun! We do this to challenge people who do not “do” opera… in the Springboard world, opera is not even asking you to get out of your comfort zone. Opera for Everyone … Opera in unexpected ways in unexpected places. Innovation is a big deal for Springboard. In everything. And in our connected world, we think that everything is connected. Like the way that the organisation runs, is financed, what its culture is. So not just the arts end of the show. Because you can’t transform just part of the Opera Idea – it is all or nothing. This is Springboard Opera… different, innovative and exciting, and that is why it is called Springboard … We are leaping into a new world – in everything that we do. Saw this the other day on the news feed… https://lnkd.in/g_MW7ifD So once you have read the story and are all set to go, the question is WHERE do you go to experience the wonders of opera? Well, if you are in Brisbane, check out https://lnkd.in/gXgNVTGg. Check out the events page – specifically Barefoot Opera… ‘Cos, if you are new to Opera – or have never thought about it – this is a fun way to find out some new stuff, and even to have a go. This is Audience-Participation opera – not the embarrassing kind, the fun kind. Tix are cheap, and the bar is open … both of which make it even more fun. But enough advertising, the more interesting discussion is about Springboard Opera and what we are about. In a nutshell, Springboard is about challenging the paradigm. Big words for a Friday but stay with me… We are out to transform what your idea of opera is. Not fuddy duddy, but …cool, and contemporary. There are lots of people trying this – read the ABC story. So, what is the Springboard Opera PoD? (… Point of Difference…remember that – there are questions later…) We are challenging the public face of opera – the bit that you see – to make it more accessible and more acceptable to be seen there… But we are also changing the bit that you do not see – the way that it is run, financed, marketed and operated. Changing everything into the C21 way… That is what makes Springboard Opera different, and that is what is so exciting, and that is why it is called Springboard … Leaping into a new world – in everything that we do! If you are interested in the Springboard PoD, jump on over to https://lnkd.in/gXgNVTGg, ‘cos we are always ready to for a chat. Friday Arts. At Springboard Opera, our things are Re-inventing the Opera Idea and Supporting Emerging Artists. Cool… On the face of it, that would seem to be about (say) presenting opera in new and innovative ways in unexpected and surprising places to people who would not usually participate in Opera. Got all of that? It IS a bit of a headful for a Friday! And what of those of us who are not blessed with singing voices? Are we doomed to sit on the sidelines as Friends and Ticket Buyers? Well … as it turns out, you can if that is your thing… but otherwise, a resounding NO! To achieve our stated outcomes, a new kind of arts organisation is needed. One that is willing to challenge the paradigm and take advantage of the opportunities thrown up by the 21st century. Answering questions like: - why does Opera have to be done the way that it is? - What could a different future look like? And ... - Can we create a sustainable model for opera (and the arts generally) that is not so heavily reliant on Government? Paradigm-busting thoughts!!! Springboard Opera, the 21st century opera company, is being built on new ways of financing itself, new ways of ensuring all stakeholders get properly rewarded for what they do, new ways to use technology in everything, new strategies to achieve outcomes… A New Way of thinking about itself. Because if it does not do that it is a 20th century opera company pretending to be a 21st Century Opera Company. This is Springboard Opera … if you’re up for a 21st century adventure, up for creating something new, exciting and paradigm-busting to support young people, jump over to our website https://lnkd.in/gXgNVTGg, and get involved.
