As an African-American choir director, the call and response tradition has been the heartbeat of my musical and spiritual upbringing. 🙏🏾 This practice isn’t just a theory of music - it’s a profound theory of relationship that reinforces the immense value of human connection. 👥 To truly engage in this vital call and response process, we must be willing to be vulnerable, putting our authentic selves out there for the group. 💗 But it’s a two-way street - the real power comes when we actively listen and creatively incorporate the feedback, allowing it to shape us in the moment. 👂🏾 This openness doesn’t just make us better musicians or speakers, it draws us into deeper, more meaningful bonds with our community. 🕊️ Embracing the vulnerability and active listening of call and response is how we build the sustaining, empowering connections that have uplifted the Black church for generations. 🙌🏾 Who’s ready to raise their voice and respond? mic drop🎤 #TedTalk #tedxtalks #CommunityBuilding #vulnerabilityisstrength #ActiveListening #whatcommunitysoundslike #blackchurch #ourstoryisone

July 4th, known as Independence Day in the United States, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Here are some key points about this significant day: 1. Historical Significance - Declaration of Independence: On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence, marking the formal separation of the thirteen American colonies from Great Britain. - Authorship: The principal author of the Declaration was Thomas Jefferson, with input from other members of the committee, including John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston. 2. Celebrations and Traditions - Fireworks: Fireworks displays are a staple of July 4th celebrations, symbolizing the "rockets' red glare" mentioned in the national anthem. - Parades: Many towns and cities host parades featuring marching bands, floats, and various community groups. - Barbecues and Picnics: Families and friends gather for outdoor barbecues and picnics, enjoying traditional American foods like hot dogs, hamburgers, and apple pie. - Concerts and Festivals: Musical performances, festivals, and patriotic events are common, celebrating American culture and heritage. - Patriotic Displays: People decorate their homes and public spaces with American flags, red, white, and blue bunting, and other patriotic symbols. 3. Reflection and Patriotism - Speeches and Ceremonies: Public officials and community leaders often deliver speeches reflecting on the meaning of independence and the nation's history. - Historical Reenactments: Some communities host reenactments of historical events related to the American Revolution and the founding of the United States. - National Pride: Independence Day is a time for Americans to express their patriotism and pride in their country, honoring the principles of freedom and democracy. So, last night I caught a show celebrating the music of the "27 club" featuring legends like Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janice Joplin, and Amy Winehouse, who all left us too soon at 27. The tunes were absolutely killer. What really hit me was the reminder that the best music comes from artists who are willing to bare their souls and get real in their lyrics. Amy Winehouse didn't shy away from her struggles with addiction – she knew she needed help, she just wasn't gonna go to rehab, no, no, no. The raw honesty in these iconic songs got me thinking about why we all flock to certain content on platforms like LinkedIn. We can't resist a good, authentic story. While I wouldn't advise sharing anything you haven't fully processed or that makes you feel too exposed, I do recommend you dive deep. Whether it's just you and your journal, or you're ready to put it out there, be true to yourself. Share your story, help others, and hey, maybe sell a product or two while you're at it. Love and Light ❤️✨️

Everything worthwhile takes time. On my way back from choir rehearsal on Thursday evenings, I often catch Bob Harris’s country music programme, on Radio 2. I have an eclectic taste in music. To me, country music is life personified: songs written from the heart and soul, digging deep on true life experiences. Recently, Bob played music by an artist who had taken 10 years to crack the Nashville country music scene. Just before she had her big break, she was about to give up and head back home to Kentucky. 10 years to crack Nashville. 10 000 hours to reach mastery. Everything worthwhile takes time and it takes time because we have to build our own ecosystem of connections, interactions and progressive momentum. If our business expansion plans involve promoting our proposition to strangers, then it is going to take time and persistence. Our ecosystems need to be built. Many people give up on an idea too soon, leaving opportunities for others. Perhaps some do this because their personal circumstances change, which is unfortunate. However, many give up because they thought their idea would take off immediately and become disillusioned when it didn’t. “Success is not the absence of failure: it’s the persistence through failure.” – Aisha Tyler. Thank you for reading. Have a great week! #MarketingSuccess #SalesSuccess #Persistence

What business development lessons can you learn from going to see Black Uhuru? I had the pleasure of going to a reggae gig with Steve Davies and Andy Green FRSA at the Camden Jazz cafe in London last night. 5 BD lessons learned: 🕺Music connects people. A diverse audience enjoyed the event connected by a shared love of reggae. 💪Adapt or die. Today there are few members of the original Black Uhuru line up. Despite the change in personnel the sound and spirit remains the same. ⛓️💥Engage, Engage, Engage. The experience of live music should feel different to listening at home. The band know this and engage their audience with energy in their performance. 😊Give your audience what they want. Black Uhuru repeated the fans favourites because that’s what they wanted. 💉Positivity is infectious. Look like you want to be in the room. #relationshipbuilding #businessdevelopment
