Let’s face it - many non-profits have asked themselves: how do we tap into the hefty profits of private sector giants? Corporate funding can be an appealing prospect - not only do these companies often have budgets that dwarf those in the non-profit world, but partnering with them can also give organisations a shiny new profile boost. But here’s the catch: opportunities are limited, and smaller non-profits often face an uphill battle. Plus, there are risks - like mission alignment, shifting priorities, and reputational concerns such as greenwashing. Have a look the pros and cons revealed by our #SecuringNonprofitFunding report below. What do you think - is corporate funding worth the trade-offs? And what's been the key to accessing it? To see how other non-profits have navigated these challenges and secured this type of funding, read our report here: https://bit.ly/4gvvBnX #PayersAtScale #CorporateFunding #PrivateSector #Fundraising ________________________________ 👉 Follow Spring Impact for practical scale tips 🔄 Like, comment, or repost below 💌 Subscribe to #ScaleMail for a short weekly resource straight to your inbox: https://bit.ly/3WSHf5z

Do you ever feel like the term "charity" belongs in a bygone era? It makes me think of a Jane Austen novel, to be honest. Even the most common name for our sector - "nonprofit" - is difficult to reconcile. It seems to suggest money isn't necessary to accomplish our mission. The very name of our sector can reinforce the idea that we can operate without adequate funding. This mindset is a major contributor to issues like low pay. But here's the truth: Our sector thrives on financial support. It's time we reframe the conversation around fundraising. Instead of relying on traditional models, let's embrace innovative strategies. ✨ Prioritize sustainability and financial empowerment. ✨ Acknowledge the essential role of money in driving meaningful change. ✨ Create a more equitable and impactful future for everyone. 💙 BTW I'm meeting up with local Community-Centric Fundraising folks today at 4pm PT to talk about how to make our sector a more equitable space. DM if you're in the LA area and want to join us! 𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧? Unlike for-profit businesses, non-profits operate differently: 💰 Donors give money. 🎯 Beneficiaries receive the value. But this disconnect means: ❌ Donors can’t always see where their money goes. ❌ Ineffective non-profits can still thrive. Here’s the real issue: The problem isn’t non-profits—it’s finding the right ones. Research shows some non-profits are 100𝐱 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 than others at creating impact. How do we fix this? #NewReport: Funding remains one of the toughest barriers to scaling. So we asked: how do non-profits that successfully sustain solutions at scale secure funding for it? And who's paying? We're thrilled to launch #SecuringNonProfitFunding which uncovers the funding models that enabled 28 leading non-profits across 70 countries to increase their reach and impact. We looked at five funding sources —philanthropy, governments, corporates, institutions, and end-users, and examined the trade-offs of each, the wins, and lessons learned. The stories of the 28 organisations studied show us that securing funding to transform lives at scale is possible, despite a difficult and complex landscape. Their journeys provide clear lessons, which can guide both non-profits and funders in their pursuit of bigger impact. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀? People outside the sector, and far too many inside it, think that successful fundraising is all about securing that next big gift or meeting ambitious targets. But when over 170 fundraising & development peeps answered my question about what really fuels their energy and motivation, the results said something very different. 𝗔 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝘄𝗼-𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. The takeaway? It’s not just about the money—it’s about the relationships you build and the change you can see happening because of your efforts. Maybe it’s time to rethink the approach: What if we shifted the focus from dollar signs to donor relationships and real-world impact your work creates? Together we can all challenge the old norms and start prioritizing what truly matters. The results could be transformational—not just for our organizations, but for the communities you serve! #fundraising #nonprofits #impact

The Business of Non-Profits: Impact, Financials, and Sustainability There's a critical misconception in the non-profit world that needs addressing: the belief that righteousness of the cause alone deserves funding. But righteousness is the bare minimum entry point for a non-profit entering into business. And non-profits are businesses—they are incorporated as such but receive a "non-profit" designation. And like businesses, nonprofits need revenue to operate. When it comes to grants, many believe their cause's nobility should guarantee funding. But here's the reality: Countless causes are worthy: education, healthcare, environment, elder care, animal welfare, poverty alleviation, human rights, mental health, disaster relief, arts and culture, scientific research, youth development, food security, and social justice - to name just a few. Each sector faces urgent, systemic challenges. Each is righteous. As a result, grant funding doesn't flow based on righteousness alone. Funders read dozens of grant applications from organizations working important causes, but they can't fund all of them. Righteousness is the entry ticket, not the winning formula. The key differentiator? Impact. Funders support organizations that demonstrably make a difference in their focus areas. To thrive, non-profits must: Understand that impact, not just good intentions, attracts funding Demonstrate measurable results in addressing their chosen issues In the non-profit world, righteousness opens doors. But it's tangible impact and financial responsibility that keep them open (and funded). #NonprofitBusiness #SocialImpact #GrantFunding #NonprofitStrategy #ImpactMeasurement #FinancialSustainability

1wIt's important to also consider what joint / co-funding can come by connecting nonprofits with closely aligned corporates (ie public sector funding and/or impact funding).
