Our practice evolves, hand in hand with enterprising businesses! As some of you know, I absolutely ADORE tech. I’ve written plenty calling for increased integration of tech within primary care, as I believe its potential benefits help everybody. This week, we had the absolute pleasure of having Medicus -, a new enterprising company revolving around providing IT systems services for NHS practices. Up till now, there has been a duopoly on the health IT systems market: with the big guns being SystmOne and Emis. But it seems like that domination may end, with NHS England showing increasing enthusiasm to purchase systems from other companies.    Human ingenuity is incredible, and nowadays it takes the form of innovative businesses with refreshingly new ideas. Medicus, including its co-founder Emile Axelrad along with April A., joined us, and we discussed what we were doing in our own practice, Elm Tree Medical Centre itself. We had personalised discussions where we formed a symbiotic relationship, where both Elm Tree and Medicus would work together to create a service that is efficient and works for us and our patients. Often the problem with bigger companies is that their products are designed with someone who is not you in mind. This results in a product that is so rigid and stiff in its making that it is almost incompatible with your business needs. By collaborating with these smaller businesses, there is a lot more potential for your own input, and hopefully, with your heads together, you can create a product that is a lot more you, and your practice. Medicus has done so well - that it has even been used as a case study on the NHS Digital website itself. It was so lovely meeting these people who clearly have so much passion for primary care and clearly want to make a difference. NHS led innovation continues to thrive through the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme (CEP) which now empowers 1000s of NHS healthcare professionals to create solutions to challenges internally 🌐 💡For example: After a broken lightbulb cancelled a dozen theatres, Ash Kalraiya saw the need for streamlining his practice, leading to the creation of MediShout - the world’s first one-stop app for healthcare staff to solve any operational issue. Adoption in the NHS can be a profound challenge for both new and established providers. Barriers often exist at every turn, and how we navigate those challenges can make all the difference between impactful collaborations and missed opportunities. At C the Signs, we've been working with the NHS since 2018, and each partnership has taught us something new. It was great to share some of those learnings at the "Easier to Adopt, Quicker to Scale" event hosted by Grow London on Tuesday. Moving from the first partnership to scaling across ten and beyond—across regions in the UK—requires new strategies, and it’s an ongoing process of adapting and refining.
