December is Here, So Are Cyber Scammers. It’s holiday season, and while you’re planning gifts and celebrations, scammers are busy planning their next move. Here’s how to stay ahead: 1. Use strong passwords. Avoid things like “123456” or your name. Create something only you can guess. Use 4lphanum3rik 2. Turn on two-factor authentication. It’s like having a backup plan to keep your accounts safe. 3. Be careful with holiday deals. Scammers love sending fake “sales” links. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. 4. Update your devices. Old software makes it easier for hackers to break in. 5. Don’t trust public Wi-Fi. If you’re out shopping or traveling, use your mobile data or a VPN for anything important. Tis’ the season! While we are spending money and a lot of time online there are some things you can do to shop smarter and stay secure when online! Phishing attacks are on the rise, as cybercriminals use fake websites advertising deals designed to steal your personal information. To stay safe, the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) makes the following recommendations: ✔ Ensure all devices you use to online shop are up-to-date - this includes your phone ✔ Only do online shopping through trusted sources ✔ Create strong passwords on your shopping accounts - and be sure to change them annually ✔ Using safe methods for purchasing The most important thing is that it makes sense.  If it seems, smells, or looks too good to be true it likely is.  More importantly, it is not worth finding out.
