Seriality Townhouses. King & Sullivan Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York, completed in 2019. Design: Aldo Andreoli, circa 2016. Developer: Sanba. All rights reserved. Architect of record: Jeffrey Cole Photo by Alexander Severin www.habitat2art.com @_as__ap_ @molteniandc At Habitat to Art, to create is often to boldly reinvent. Our design of 22 townhouses in the middle of Red Hook, was definitely one of the most interesting town-houses projects in this area of Brooklyn, New York. We designed these town homes with efficiency as our guide, aware of the context where they are constructed, but with the freedom to explore our creative inspiration. The typology of the townhouse is in large demand, because of its human scale and because it represents a very comfortable and independent way of living in the middle of the city. Red Hook urban texture provides a very interesting mixture of building typologies. What at first appear as incoherent and chaotic, reveals, after a closer look, layers of hidden beauty, to be found in the historic industrial landmarks and in the rows of town houses aligned on the side of Coffey and Pioneer Street. This diversification constituted a great opportunity to design a creative project, allowing for a freedom of expression hard to realize in other part of the city. We created five different facade models for the project, as a contemporary rendition of this spirit. The proportions of each facade was designed in order to complement each other but different enough to be immediately recognizable. Each design was, in a way or another, inspired by some architectural elements present in this area. #design #opportunity #project #art #architecture #construction #creative #italiandesign #redhookbrooklyn #inspiration #projects #building #architect #openings #beauty #structural #newyorkdesign #warehouses #windows #habitat2art #aldoandreoli #brooklynrealestate #newyorkarchitecture #brooklyn #newyorkrealestate #newyork #newyorkcity

The latest victim of the shrinking home: HALLWAYS. When asked how designs are shifting to make homes smaller, architects and residential designers tell us... 🗨 "[We] reduced circulation [and] simplified the foundation to be more efficient." 🗨 "[We are] applying a conscious effort to comfortably provide only the space that is needed for a room. Often this accompanies an effort to efficiently control circulation within and between spaces." 🗨 "Elimination of hallways as much as possible." What's driving this trend? Homes are shrinking to become more affordable, but we still need the same number of rooms and features (like bedrooms, home offices, etc). We can reduce room sizes, but we don’t want rooms to be TOO small. Hallways and other circulation spaces aren't places we spend time, so we can make them smaller without much impact on the homebuyer, as long as the house still flows well. Learn more about this trend from Jamie Gold, CKD CAPS MCCWC's coverage in Forbes ➡ https://lnkd.in/gsgAEQBG Quotes from our US Residential Architecture and Design Survey (conducted with Pro Builder Media) #jbrec #nhti

At Bradbourne, we source all kinds of properties on behalf of our clients from Georgian manor houses to modern penthouses. Deciding on the style of home that's right for you is a key step in the property sourcing journey. Over the next few months, we will be breaking down all of the most popular architectural styles and discussing the merits of each one. To kick off this series, we're starting with modern minimalism - one of our favourite styles. While period properties have long been popular amongst our clients, we’re seeing an increasing number of people interested in exploring modern architecture. The 1990s saw modernism rejected, but today modernist architecture has risen in popularity once again; and this, alongside people’s desire to live in a more sustainable, environmentally-friendly way, has led, in part, to a drive towards modern minimalist style. The form and shape of these homes consider the importance of sunlight and shade (in addition to how the rooms within might be used), and homes can now be built as sealed units to minimise heat loss, with heat exchangers to provide warmth and fresh air. Solar panels are often fitted in new homes, and open plan interiors can also be designed without the problems of draughts. Timber cladding and exposed steelwork are common features as are large expanses of glass, which, thanks to new double and triple glazing technology, can be fitted whilst maintaining thermal efficiency. The benefits of modern architecture don’t just extend to eco credentials though. From fabulously clean lines and interesting use of materials to homes which meld seamlessly into natural environments, modern homes are often both architecturally original and visually striking. Quote of the day: "Great Dreams Take Time." I thought this quote sums up home renovation & architecture perfectly! 🏡 Architecture is all about patience! Whether you are making internal alterations to your home or designing an extension, the beauty is in the details but the details take time. Try and plan ahead and start your project as early as possible to avoid rushing. That way you can really enjoy the process. It's such a rewarding journey to go on! 🏡 We live in a culture of speed. Things are done quickly but are often redone. While renovating your home quickly and in one go is sometimes necessary, if you have the luxury of time, allowing your home to emerge slowly is far more likely to result in spaces you feel truly satisfied with for longer. This approach will also save you money in the long run. 🏡 Designing a home is a lot like a puzzle, only with 1000's & 1000's of pieces! It takes time to put the pieces of your puzzle together and figure out the best designs. #scribblearchitecture #residentialproperty #homedesign #architecture #homeimprovement #residentialdesign #interiordesign #edinburgh #scotland #northnorfolk #holt

We will be delivering a short talk on Mesh Work on Wednesday 28 February 12-1pm on what a contemporary home might look like in 21st Century! You can sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eD8PfubY https://lnkd.in/e8aKA9gH Just what is a contemporary home and how are they likely to look and perform as we head into 2024? In this webinar, Darren Bray, Studio B.A.D Architects suggests contemporary home design is not a fixed concept, but one that evolves according to trends, the way we live, the access we have to new products as well as the environment that surrounds us. There are so many self builders out there who are making some very informed and morally significant decisions based on what they want to achieve, but also what minimal impact that want to leave on the built environment and more widely the planet. Many self builders are now choosing to buy existing houses, buildings, churches, farm building’s and structures and convert them into their ideal home. By choosing this philosophy, self builders are delivering a more circular sustainable build and economy, rather than a linear build or economy, which aligns more with “take – make – dispose ‘ philosophy, where as a circular project, falls within the approach of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle. Hear how we can all learn from their philosophy. Karolina Alicja Stephenson Laura Whitney Amanda Moore Lorraine Farrelly Nancy Hargreaves
