A sentence has been living rent-free in my head since reading Rebekah White's intro to the latest New Zealand Geographic newsletter. White mentions a few disasters, including that due to commercial interests, plans for an ocean sanctuary at the Kermadecs has failed. White says the decision "highlights a false notion that protecting nature is fundamentally at odds with economic prosperity, as opposed to a prerequisite for it." This resonates with us at UpShift.
