As mentioned in the Herald-Sun today, there are a raft of reforms needed, including urgently addressing delays in progressing PSPs, and delays in getting to permit stage. Our industry kept the lights on during the pandemic, and now it needs support to get the next wave of housing development out of the ground. We remain committed to working with all stakeholders to improve affordability and to get industry back to doing what it does best - delivering homes and communities for Victorians. The Government is not pulling every lever, here are five that need urgent attention:

With over 75% of Australians choosing cremation and the population expected to reach 37.9 million by 2050, cemetery boards nationwide are exploring ways to reduce the carbon emissions and pollutants from cremations. Our advocacy to the Queensland Government is underway. We are making the case for a public crematorium in the Sunshine Coast Council region that can significantly lower emissions while offering culturally respectful cremation practices. Australasian Cemeteries & Crematoria Association, we challenge the engagement processes that exclude the public from discussions about managing public infrastructure. There are interactive ways to share relevant data and research with stakeholders that align with lived experience context experts, requiring thoughtful and careful planning. Essex - A great place to work, live, and do business. Essex towns and cities feature strongly in the annual Lambert Smith Hampton Vitality Index. The report, in its 11th year, offers an objective health check with the UK’s largest 100 towns and cities outside of London ranked on three key measures: The Economy and Business; Living; and Health and Environment. For the first time, Chelmsford is in the National Top 10, scoring strongly in all three categories. In addition, Basildon ranks in the top 10 in the Economy and Business category, and Colchester also features in the top 10 for Health and Environment. The East of England as a whole performs strongly across all three categories, but particularly in Economy and Business where half the top 10 are from the region. We are proud to be part of the Essex community and believe in the passion and enterprise that exists in the county. While both models have a place in the current marketplace, it's important to know the difference between an online lead aggregator and a placement agent. A lead aggregator tends to be referral site or service that takes your loved one's information and fires it off to people they're contracted with in the area that might meet their needs; a placement agent or Senior Care Advisory agent takes the time to sit down with the client, assess their needs, and make recommendations on communities. While they sound pretty similar, a placement agent also coordinates, schedules, and accompanies their client on the tours of communities, helping to streamline the experience and reduce the stress families feel when trying to navigate this system. They also tend to be local, in the communities they work with on a constant basis. It's important to make sure you understand the differences when looking for help finding a place for your loved one.

By granting flexibility to these agencies, they can develop customized solutions tailored to their communities' needs, potentially informing future national housing policies. This can benefit jurisdictions by encouraging creative problem-solving, increasing housing choices for families, and sharing best practices that can be scaled nationally. Keep an eye out for what these jurisdictions accomplish because it may be headed your way if they succeed.
