Greetings from BMC '97. Your Jewish alumni, parents of Jewish students, Jewish faculty, and staff have been through a year of incredible trauma at Bryn Mawr and Haverford, as a result of decisions, actions and complicit inactions by school administrators as a result of a hostile antisemitic environment on both campuses, in response to the Hamas terrorist attacks of October 7. While this recent lawsuit filed by the Deborah Project is against Haverford, Bryn Mawr's complicity is also implicated - allowing an "encampment" and permitting Haverford students who had committed antisemitic acts of violence to come to Bryn Mawr and terrorize the women there. Recently, the BiCo News published an article by a visiting professor, which advocated for armed "revolution" against Israel (i.e., Jews), which contradicts every tenant of Bryn Mawr's Quaker tradition of nonviolence. Yet, when alumni posted a comment in response, her comment was deleted by BiCo editorial staff (twice). These aggressions, overt and micro, are but some recent examples of ongoing an unaddressed trauma and harm, for which there has been no acknowledgement, much less remediation and accountability. As far as I know, you are not a BMC graduate, so while your sentiments here about BMC's history and culture are nice, I was educated there, and have very memories of Bryn Mawr, so much so that I have contributed to the institution in innumerable ways since graduation. Memories that are now tarnished by the betrayal of watching an institution I loved turn on me like a snake, and betray every ideal it espoused in the process - logic, reason, tolerance and respect. Other alumni feel the same. So forgive me if your breezy post about Bryn Mawr's storied past and ice cream socials don't quite land. We look forward to engaging with you on these issues.
"Walking up the steps of Taylor Hall this morning, I had a simultaneous sense of starting anew and coming home. I am aware of the powerful history housed in these buildings, on these grounds, and especially in all of you — a history of which I am not yet a part. Bryn Mawr College is a remarkable institution with a complex history and a focus on academic excellence, access, and inclusion that prepares all of us for lives of meaning and purpose. The college’s mission and the layered ways so many of you are committed to telling its history and building its future are why I am here today." Today, leaders from the Rick Hansen Foundation attended the annual Harkin International Disability Employment Summit in Washington, D.C., to share exciting news. The summit was hosted by the The Harkin Institute, which carries on the legacy of Tom Harkin, the author and primary sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Harkin Institute and RHF have a shared goal; a society in which people with disabilities can participate fully and with dignity. Along with Senator Harkin, we are thrilled to announce that the Harkin Institute and RHF have signed a commitment to work together in the United States. Our collaboration will break down barriers to inclusion in the places where we live, learn, work and play. These barriers are some the primary barriers people with disabilities still face. We are excited to work together to build a more accessible future for all.
The Harkin Institute is thrilled to enter into a new partnership with the Rick Hansen Foundation! Together we will bring Universal Design expertise, training, and experience to bear on the built environment in the United States. #HarkinSummit24

🌍 Transformative Journeys: Witnessing Innovation and Ambition Rehan School, Karachi Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Rehan School on the outskirts of Karachi, Pakistan. This was not just a journey across miles, but a deep dive into a hub of youthful ambition and innovation under challenging circumstances. 🚀 Empowerment through Education and Technology The students at Rehan School, coming from low-resource areas, are not just learning about technology; they're mastering it to build futures they've dared to dream of. What struck me the most was their focus on sustainability and the use of AI tools not just for academic projects but to forge real-world businesses aimed at global markets. 💡 Big Dreams in the Making One of their goals? To build businesses worth over a million dollars before graduation. It sounds ambitious, but their unrelenting conviction makes you a believer. Despite limited resources, these students are leveraging their skills to create services and products for a global audience, turning challenges into stepping stones. 🌐 A Call to Support and Collaborate Their journey is a powerful reminder of how education can transform lives, especially when combined with the right tools and opportunities. Let's think about how we can support such initiatives, whether through mentorship, investment, or technology partnerships. If the students reach out to interview you, say "YES!" As I left the school, I carried with me not just fond memories but a renewed belief in the power of determination and vision. These students are not waiting for change; they are driving it. 🔗 #EducationForAll #Sustainability #AI #YouthEmpowerment #Innovation#Youarethesolution Rehan Allahwala Manahil Remotejobwali Saad Allahwala

🌿 Investing in Nature-Based Play and Learning in Tucson 🌿 At PNC, we’re thrilled to collaborate with incredible partners in Tucson to foster high-quality, nature-based outdoor play and learning environments for young children. Together, we’re creating spaces where children can explore, discover, and thrive in harmony with the natural world. ✨ What we’re building together: * Interactive play areas featuring natural surroundings and sensory elements. * Professional development for teachers to implement nature-based curricula. * Family engagement opportunities to deepen connections between home, school, and nature. A huge thank you to the UA School Garden Workshop for leading these enhancements, providing technical support, and sharing their expertise on how gardens can thrive in the desert. We’re also grateful for the partnership of the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD1.org) and the Brichta Infant & Early Learning Center, whose collaboration makes this impactful work possible. And there’s more to come! Future enhancements include a farm stand, where children can sharpen their math skills by selling produce, and—yes—a chicken coop to bring learning to life. 🐓🥬 These efforts are backed by research. Recent PNC-funded studies by the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) revealed: 📊 Nearly 49% of children ages 3-5 play outside less than once a day. 📚 A literature review highlights that nature-based pre-K programs promote better learning and development outcomes for children. By combining research-driven practices with local expertise, we’re cultivating a brighter future where children connect with nature and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we’re planting the seeds of a lifelong love for learning—and the environment. 🌱 #PNCGrowUpGreat #NatureBasedLearning #EarlyChildhoodEducation #OutdoorPlay #CommunityPartnerships #Tucson Cathleen Walker, Sally McCrady, Brett Plains, Kyle A. Shoutout PNC and #PNCGrowUpGreat for partnering with us on an exciting school garden project at Brichta Early Learning Center in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD1.org). We're in the midst of a full garden revamp and nature play area. Stay tuned as this amazing project comes together!
