𝘼𝙣 𝙪𝙥𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣’𝙨 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙪𝙥 ⤵️ Following the proposed amendment to the Women's Football Pyramid League Rules, the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA is taking part in an FA Pilot for the 2024/25 season to better align the women’s pyramid and County Cups. As a result, the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA Women’s Senior Cup competition will start slightly later this season, with first-round fixtures set to take place in January 2025. The pilot aims to support leagues in the women’s pyramid whilst protecting the role of County Cup Competitions within the women’s game. By taking part in this pilot, we want to ensure the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA Women’s Senior Cup competition continues to play a significant role in developing the women’s game, providing opportunities for clubs and players to compete for silverware on a regional level. Together with the Football Association, we will continue to monitor the impact of these changes in future seasons.

Coincidence or the benefits of the non-league pathway? Last night was another memorable evening for Hertford Town U18s as they defeated Category 3 Academy opposition once again in the FA Youth Cup, following up their 1st Round win over Cambridge United Football Club with victory over Bristol Rovers Football Club (Official) in the 2nd Round. Every member of their starting line-up has played senior football at either Step 4 or 5 of non-league football this season, accumulating thousands of minutes and regularly impacting games, often against ex-pros almost twice their age. A number of these players were also previously in the academy system (many at Category 3s) before being released. Consequently, they have embarked on an alternative career trajectory of playing as many games as possible in senior football at a young age, instead of a further 2-3 years in a professional academy with no senior experience. Are these results then simply the magic of the cup or, by reaching the 3rd Round against Arsenal F.C, are Hertford Town demonstrating that the non-league pathway - senior football between the ages of 16-18 - has given them the edge over their full-time academy opposition? #NLG

AFL Victoria has unveiled two groundbreaking football facility projects in Shepparton and Echuca, as part of a new national program to develop ovals on school sites or other innovative locations. The new locations at Wanganui Oval in Shepparton and St Joseph’s College in Echuca are the first projects in Victoria to be announced through the AFL - Australian Football League ‘Breaking New Ground’ program. Are we measuring Southgate on managing a team in a League or a Tournament? The roller-coaster we have been on during the Euros throws up some real issues about coaching and leading teams in Leagues and planning and delivering Tournament success. Why as they are completely different to plan and deliver. A Premier League Coach/Manager has ten months to drill his patterns of play, principles and approaches to defence, transition and offence. This is the same within any Team sport. Southgate selected a team for the first game from eight different Clubs with a varied approach to the patterns of those three principles of team play. Those coaches will have drilled those players to ensure they applied this during the season. If the ball goes, there you go there and pass it there etc. So, Southgate’s most of the players for two weeks before the start of the tournament and with Bellingham a week before. Many players will be on a tapper down on their physical conditioning preparing for off-season not a highly intense tournament. In addition, the opposition have had two plus months to prepare and as England are a top team they will have constructed a “Park the bus” approach with transition into nicking a goal and hanging on, with an assumption that England will not have had time to plan and prepare. The stats on the Euros and World Cip are clear, teams that do not concede win the tournament, not those going toe-to-toe as in the Premier League. So, for me the group and last 16 was inevitable because Southgate knows how too long in a tournament and so his first two weeks were on re-conditioning the players and making sure defensively, they were sound. So, we got what we did. Now he has built the offence and players are now fully engaged and not in fear of going out. In addition, Southgate has clearly learnt from previous tournaments with substitution and changing formation. This does not guarantee a win on Sunday but that is now down the players. Normally when you see this many postponements in League 1, it's because of storms or freezing weather. However, it is a sign of the times when this is next weekend and it's due to international call ups. I don't think I can remember a single instance growing up of Northampton Town Football Club (Official) having a game called off due to this, yet this is the 2nd time this season. What is this due to? I'd say 2 factors and one non-factor ✅️ Top tier clubs encouraging young international level players to go out on loan. There is a definite shift in the landscape around finding talented young players, in top academies, mens football. Top level clubs are more willing to let others develop those players for them. ❌️ League 1 and 2 clubs developing their own young international players. The youth sides of the home nations are still dominated by Premier League and Championship academy players. Odds are if you are any lower than that and in an international youth squad, you're getting snapped up soon. ✅️ Transfers from European sides are on the up. This year alone, League 1 sides have been signing players from Iceland, Sweden and further. That influx of talent from nations like these, if succesful, could create a new pathway for talent and shift the make up of the leagues even further. As a Bangor born boy and co-owner of CPD Bangor 1876 Football Club I had to swallow my pride and acknowledge and disucss Caernarfon Town’s success in Europe and the riches that are associated with that on BBC Radio Cymru this morning - chapeau and good luck to them this evening representing Cymru. The financial impact of European football on Welsh domestic football is huge - The New Saints Football Club will earn a minimum of €1.7m, CPD TREF CAERNARFON TOWN FC CYF at least €700k and Bala Town F.C. and Connah's Quay Nomads FC Ltd €325k. Considering prize money for domestic competitions only in the thousands/tens of thousands and playing budgets of most clubs between £250-500,000, a season in Europe can make a huge difference and consistent European qualification more so. However, the risk is that the gap between those clubs and rest of league grows, especially considering TNS went unbeaten last season in the league and fact that Cymru will lose one of their 4 European places this season meaning the riches of Europe will only benefit 3, not 4, clubs. This comes at a time where Football Association of Wales is seeking to reinvigorate the JD Cymru Premier

August is the time that University #clearing campaigns collide with the #football #transferwindow. The team UCFB has been unbelievable in their efforts - some of the best campaigning I've seen in #HigherEducation (check out their channels). The alignment means a trip to #Salford to work with the BBC Sport team, to unpick what has been a complex transfer window so far. Of course influenced by; ⚽ Regulation ⚽ Concern over what happened last season for Everton Football Club & Nottingham Forest. ⚽ Reduced cash flow, and ⚽ A lack of true value. For once we are now seeing clubs balance their books. Selling before buying and, for some clubs, finally #negotiating properly.
