Honouring Martin Luther King Jr. This Friday, 6th December, marks 60 years since Martin Luther King Jr. spoke to 4,000 people from the pulpit of St Paul's Cathedral. To commemorate this historic moment, we’re hosting a weekend of special talks, services and sermons exploring the ongoing impact of his teachings and how we can engage in the fight for racial justice today. ✨ Don’t miss a highlight of the weekend: the live premiere of a specially commissioned anthem at Evensong on Sunday, 8th December. Composed by Roderick Williams and written by writer and performer Dr Rommi Smith, this moving piece is inspired by Dr King’s powerful sermon, Three Dimensions of a Complete Life. 🔗 We’d love for you to join us. Join TRG's Kim (Ky) Koroma-Tommy, PMP, Toyosi Olowoyeye, and Arthur Romano today at 2:00pm ET for a virtual breakout session on Creating More Just, Equitable, and Sustainable Projects by Applying Kingian Nonviolence Principles, at Society for International Development, United States (SID-US)’s 2024 Annual Conference! As we look to overcome some of the globe’s most urgent and daunting challenges, the way in which we work together to achieve these goals should reflect that kind of world we seek to create and support. The theory and practice of nonviolence has been at the core of some of history’s most successful and enduring movements for positive change. Nonviolence is also rooted in cultural traditions, wisdom, and experiences from across the globe. This session looks specifically at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s 6 principles of nonviolence, which outlined the organizing philosophy for the US Civil Rights Movement. This session invites participants into conversation about how they see their own work in international development through the lens of these 6 principles and what it means for how they choose to design, manage, and lead projects that are intended to create more justice, equity, and sustainability.
