➰Introducing the Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant expansion and upgrade for Hobart➰ 📣Our team, as part of a long and successful partnership with TasWater, fellow CIMIC Group Limited company UGL and WSP in Australia, continues to progress the delivery of water infrastructure projects across Tasmania, with the expansion of TasWater’s Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant now underway. Part of the TasWater capital works program, known as the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation project, the enhanced Selfs Point treatment facility will set a new standard for environmental stewardship in Tasmania by integrating advanced membrane bioreactor technology that will significantly improve the quality of process wastewater. After a year-long collaboration with Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), the effectiveness of WaterUps Tree Reservoirs has been validated. The result highlights significant improvements in tree growth and water reduction approaches compared to traditional watering methods. Observation to DPIE's watering guidelines were followed for the first 4 months: - 48 maintenance visits requiring 480L per tree without WaterUps. - 16 maintenance visits requiring 160L per tree with WaterUps.   The observation highlights the disparity in water usage between trees with, and without WaterUps technology, utilising a significantly lower amount of water compared to those with conventional watering. #westernsydneyinternational #wsi #waterups #wicking

Thrilled to share the groundbreaking results of our collaboration with Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) over the past year. This partnership aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of WaterUps® Tree Reservoirs, and the findings are nothing short of remarkable. Our joint effort revealed that trees equipped with WaterUps® Tree Reservoirs not only showcased superior growth but also demonstrated a more efficient approach to water management when compared to traditional watering methods. By adhering to DPIE's watering guidelines during the initial four months, we observed: - A reduction in maintenance visits from 48 to 16 per tree, highlighting a significant decrease in labor and resources. - A drastic cut in water usage from 480L to just 160L per tree, underscoring WaterUps modular wicking technology's role in promoting water conservation. These findings underscore the stark difference in water usage and maintenance needs between trees utilising WaterUps® modular wicking technology and those dependent on conventional watering methods. Proud to be at the forefront of sustainable greening solutions, this collaboration further validates the efficacy of our innovative modular wicking systems which are all manufactured in Australia from locally sourced recycled faood safe plastics. #westernsydneyinternational #wsi #waterups #wicking

While the Government's new Local Water Done Well policy is still in development, we're already collaborating with councils across the Wellington region to explore options for a joint water services delivery plan. Given the number of people that travel in and out of our district each day, it makes sense for us to put our heads together to see if we can come up with a plan that will benefit our respective communities equally. Although our three waters infrastructure is in relatively good shape here on the Kāpiti Coast, we're still facing similar cost pressures of ageing infrastructure and the need for ongoing investment in our drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater networks. We have some tough decisions to make on how to fully fund our three water operating costs moving forward. That's why our Long-term Plan (LTP) 2024–34 consultation document asks, "how should Council fund the increased cost to deliver Three Water Services?" Last month we joined the Norfolk Water Strategy Programme in publishing a Business Case for a Norfolk Water Fund. As part of the launch I was delighted to join the other partners in presenting the Business Case on their webinar, which can be viewed on WRE’s YouTube channel (link in comment).   So what is the Norfolk Water Fund? The Norfolk Water Fund is a new initiative, backed by a partnership between Norfolk County Council, Anglian Water Services, The Nature Conservancy, and Water Resources East , and aims to invest £30 million in nature-based solutions (NbS) to address water scarcity, water quality, and flood risk management challenges in Norfolk.    The business case shows that every £1 invested in NbS could generate £6.70 in benefits, including improved water resources, enhanced habitats for wildlife, and support for housing growth while preserving the environment. The fund will focus on implementing projects to reduce water runoff through interventions like leaky ponds and soil management measures. This initiative aims to position Norfolk as a global leader in collaborative water management. It is supported by The Nature Conservancy and will be a pilot project in Europe, with plans to expand and refine over the next 18 months. Initial funding support of £1.2 million is being sought, along with participation from farmers and landowners interested in NbS delivery.   Dr Robin Price, Director of Quality and the Environment, guest panel speaker said;   “We have recently submitted plans for a £9bn investment programme for our region for the period through to 2030, of which almost half will be directly used to protect, restore and enhance the environment. We have taken ‘nature-first’ approach when developing our investment plans, looking to invest in nature-based solutions for nutrient reduction, drought resilience, natural flood risk management and storm overflow treatment, as we recognised the much wider benefits these solutions bring.
