Freshwater prawns aka udang galah are also known as Malaysian lobsters here. Though not air flown, they are getting quite rare here in Northern Malaysia. Frozen ones could cost RM50/kg onward, depending on size, and live ones could start from as low as RM120/kg onward, almost similar to the price of king white prawns now. Certain restaurants would also charge them as much as the price of mud crabs (RM80-RM150/kg)

Trainee - Chapter 29 : Making the Garnish *** In Banyubiru, the conditions were still quite manageable compared to the previous few days (where the queue of guests for breakfast was very large) and fortunately our number, namely chefs, seniors and trainees, was still able to keep up with this. I and four other people did the incharge in the Western section. The first thing I did when I took on the role was to start cutting vegetables, namely onions, as a garnish as a complementary condiment for making omelets. What garnishes are needed to complete the omelette? Well, these include tomatoes, onions, capsicum and mushrooms. While the rest is usually in the form of special requests from guests. It could be bacon, English spinach, red chili, ham, and so on. I also don't forget to always keep an eye on the meatball section because many foreign tourists, especially from Asia, are interested in trying meatballs. #CUISINE | Satay (Southeast Asian form of kebab made from seasoned, skewered and barbecued meat, served with a sauce). 🇲🇾🇮🇩🇹🇭🇸🇬🇵🇭 According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the English word satay is derived from the Malay word satai. It is known as saté or sate (in Indonesian), ultimately originating from Tamil catai (சதை, a regional variant of tacai meaning 'flesh'). Satay proper is known as satti in the Southern Philippines (Mindanao). It is common in the regions of Zamboanga, Sulu Archipelago and Tawi-Tawi, which acquired satay from its proximity to Malaysia. Satti usually only has three small strips of roasted meat on a stick. Satti is usually made from chicken or beef among Muslim Filipinos. Satay is a popular dish in Thailand; a key feature of Thai satay is the inclusion of pork as a meat option. Usually served with peanut sauce and achat. Satay can easily be found in virtually any Thai restaurant worldwide. In the United States, satay is said to be one of America's favourite Thai dishes. ASEAN Culture & History
