I didn’t know when I started. “Things you must include in your graphic design contracts.” Yes, when I started my career as a designer, I didn’t know what exactly I need to add in my contract. But let me tell you with my experience. 1. THE DELIVERABLES Deliverables are a crucial part of any project as they represent the assets that clients will receive upon completion. 2. TIMELINE It includes deadlines and milestones Outline the project timeline, it's essential to establish key milestones and deadlines to ensure smooth progress and successful completion. 3. PAYMENT TERMS - Total cost (State the total amount to be paid for the project.) - Payment schedule (Specify when payments are due) - Payment Methods (Indicate acceptable payment methods) 4. TERMINATION CLAUSE Make sure to clearly define the reasons for contract termination in your clauses to protect your business. By clearly outlining the circumstances under which a contract can be terminated, you set clear expectations with the other party. 5. REVISIONS It's important to clearly communicate with clients about the number of revisions included in their project package. By setting expectations from the beginning, both parties can avoid any misunderstandings later on. Open communication and clarity are key to a successful client relationship. 6. LICENSES When communicating with your clients about their final product, make sure to highlight all the ways they can use it, whether it be for personal or commercial purposes. Clearly stating the rights and restrictions associated with the product can prevent any misunderstandings or disputes down the line. Do you think it is helpful? If yes please repost it ♥️

The way businesses contract out design work is broken! 😱 Hyperbole? Yes • Is it still a terrible structure? Also, Yes! Think about it. From the get go design contracts are already inefficient. Here's everything that has to happen before a Designer even starts designing: • The Business researches Designers that will be best for the project • The Business then reaches out to the Designer • The Business shares the scope of the project • The Designer provides a price and timeline • There may be back and forth negotiations • A contract is generated and signed • The Designer sends an invoice • The Business pays the invoice • The Designer starts Damn that's a lot of steps (in fact my fingers almost cramped writing all that). And, we haven't even gotten to the fun part yet — pricing structure. Pricing structures are "fun" because no matter how they're set up they create a combative relationship — the Designer and Business at odds with each other. Hourly Rate Structure: • The Business wants the design completed as quickly as possible • The Designer makes more money the longer the design takes to finish Per Project Structure: • The Business wants to ensure they get enough "value" for the price they paid • The Designer needs to work as fast as possible to maximize profit margins But wait! There's more! We haven't even talked about revisions and communication turnaround times. Actually, we're not going to go in to that today. Inefficient. Combative. "Broken". That's the current situation for most businesses when they contract out design work. Have you experience this as well? What are your thoughts?
