This post highlights the upcoming All-Star Giveback event at Eastern Market Shed 5 on November 26. Now in its 27th year, this event serves as a symbol of unity in addressing food insecurity, especially crucial during the Thanksgiving season. It emphasizes the importance of coming together to support vulnerable communities, showcasing the impact of solidarity in fighting hunger. In a world where disparities exist, where abundance and scarcity coexist, collaborative efforts like the All-Star Giveback can bring about significant change. By joining forces with this initiative, we not only acknowledge food insecurity but actively work towards solutions, ensuring crucial assistance reaches those in need, particularly during critical times like the holidays. Let's unite and create a positive impact by supporting initiatives like the All-Star Giveback, fostering a society built on justice and compassion for all. Together, we can make a difference and contribute to a community that stands strong against hunger. #FightHunger #CommunitySupport #HolidayGiving

As a leader in #foodjustice work, I’ve learned the following. 1) volunteerism that is 70%+ reflective of the community being service, uplifts overall trust and community building. Leading volunteerism work through a #DEI approach ensures representation of the diverse communities we are a part of. 2) volunteers can be part of the base you service. Providing options for volunteers to benefit from the service allows for volunteer engagement amongst communities that otherwise would be shy of. Clear boundaries need to be made to prevent exchange of good for volunteerism. 3) food justice work needs to be community informed. Our identities are intertwined with our access to nourishment. 4) food justice work is essential to linkage to other services. Love Wins NYC Food Pantry ♥️

"It isn't just about making access to any type of food. It's about making access to the foods that are relevant, are important, that means something to families." - Carolyn Belisle, Director, Corporate Social Responsibility, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Food insecurity isn't solved by just providing any available food. It's solved by understanding the cultural and personal significance of the meals we share. Through our mobile food pantries and community events, we're bridging gaps and building connections, one meaningful meal at a time. We're the ELISHA project. I was so excited to watch this project come together, from early concepts and strategy to those first design mockups and all the way through to development and deployment. It was a wonderful project and I love the end result. Congrats to Stef Jones, Heather Schneider, Tayo, Joshua, Mike, and the entire SCAN team. Here are a few behind-the-scenes highlights I caught from the sidelines while watching this project come together: 1) We used Octopus.do for rapid and visual sitemap generation. It helped visualize rough page layouts, which helped communicate those ideas with the project's lead designer. 2) This is the second project we have used Storybook on, and it made QA and handling the growing number of layout permutations feel manageable rather than ballooning technical debt. 3) We continue to push image attribution on as many photos as possible. This is an extra bit of work but makes the site feel alive, rich with meta details, and does right by both the photographers, artists, and the subjects. We've been using tippy.js for this and might move to the author's new library, floating-ui.js, in the future. 4) We used GigaPixel by TopazLabs to upscale one of the main hero images. It does a beautiful job of adding super-resolution detail without introducing artifacts or detracting from the original's look and feel. It's a one-time purchase, and we'll definitely be using it in the future. 5) Utility-based CSS frameworks seem to have been a win with the developers; maybe I was the lone skeptic. They also make content modular across a single project and even potentially between different client projects. This is particularly of interest as we lean heavily into WordPress Gutenberg blocks. Combined with Storybook, it could also be a winning strategy.

We're proudly supporting the #HolidaysMatter campaign, shining a spotlight on the importance of holiday activities for local children and raising awareness of the fantastic work being done by organisations running the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme across the country. We lead this in #Cornwall via the Time2Move Holiday Programme, commissioning healthy, active and fun experiences and nutritious meals for children aged 5-16 during the Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays, especially those who need our support the most. With more than 4 million children growing up in low-income families, holiday activities in underserved communities are vital so this national campaign aims to secure future funding so that we can collectively expand our reach and impact. EVER THOUGHT THIS? What can you do differently TODAY to make this world a more giving and kinder place? Few ideas... ✅ GIVE your time if you have a skill to help someone who doesn't have the means to afford to pay for lessons... ✅ GIVE someone undivided attention to hear someone out... ✅ GIVE some money to charity... ✅ GIVE some love to someone who needs it! (A gentle hug or soft touch when in the right time and place is extremely helpful)... ✅ GIVE your time by volunteering to help a charity or someone who needs a hand... (Even a few minutes is better than no minutes!) Very often I hear people saying, "Seriously, what can little me do to make things better?" 🔥IMAGINE if we ALL did one little something for someone TODAY... How incredible would this world be?!?? #gift #giving #kindness GIFT
Unlock your giving with GIFT! We’re excited to share our latest step in making giving even easier: Amazon-style smart lockers for our volunteer drivers to collect and drop off food bank deliveries. With a quick code on the keypad, a locker door pops open, and packages are ready to go. It’s simple, efficient, and incredibly convenient — freeing up time for our volunteers to focus on what matters most: helping others. At GIFT, our mission is to inspire and enable giving. We believe technology and innovation are key to breaking down barriers and encouraging more people to volunteer their time. This is just one more way we’re making it easier for everyone to get involved. Special mention to Hublok for the boxes and Genium for the design concept. #Innovation #GivingMadeEasy #Volunteering #FoodBank Sandor Milun Dalia Davis

🌟 Strengthening Your Local Community Through Giving Back 🌟 In our journey as professionals, it's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of our careers and personal ambitions. However, amidst our pursuit of success, it's vital to pause and recognize the profound impact we can have by giving back to the very communities that support us. When we focus our efforts on our local communities, we're not just making a difference; we're igniting a chain reaction of positive change that reverberates far beyond our neighborhoods. By lending a helping hand, offering our time and resources, and actively engaging with those around us, we become catalysts for meaningful transformation. One of the most beautiful aspects of giving back locally is the opportunity to forge deep connections with our neighbors, fellow professionals, and community leaders. These connections go beyond surface-level interactions; they foster a sense of belonging, solidarity, and mutual support that strengthens the very fabric of our community. Moreover, when we give back locally, we address the specific needs and challenges faced by our community members. Whether it's volunteering at a local food bank to combat hunger, participating in environmental clean-up initiatives to preserve our natural surroundings, or mentoring young talents to nurture the leaders of tomorrow, our actions directly contribute to building a brighter future for everyone. Ultimately, giving back to our local community is a privilege and an opportunity to create lasting, positive change where it matters most. As professionals, let's continue to invest in our neighborhoods, nurture meaningful connections, and build a legacy of generosity, compassion, and empowerment. Together, we can make our communities stronger, more resilient, and more vibrant than ever before. #LocalCommunity #GiveBack #CommunityEngagement
