Congratulations Rod Balding for taking over this crucial role especially when Australia is going to witness the next major build in transmission since the 80's. We need an urgent revamp of AS 7000, the last time this standard was updated it was 2016. Technical advancements from around the World including Australia have unfortunately left AS 7000 behind and many practices are currently seeking alternative references (i.e IEC, ASCE etc.). I represent CIGRE, Australia (Council of Large Electric Systems - Overhead Lines) and would urge Standards Australia to connect with CIGRE in order to carry out an urgent update to the current AS7000:2016.

2wStandards Australia should get the Commonwealth to fund Standard Australia 's standards development efforts and make them free to the world. The outcome of this will be tradies and others across the world downloading Australian and Australian/New Zealand standards to learn their subject matter. It is then much easier for Australian businesses to sell products and services overseas and here in Australia. We should expect hundreds of millions of downloads from China and India. The sale of Standards Australia's quality assurance services and the income from the sale of standards was a great tragedy for Australia in the context of the benefit to Australia of free standards.
