With #COP29 focusing on #urbanisation today, we want to highlight the new ISO - International Organization for Standardization standard on ESG indicators for cities, ISO 37125. This standard is the first of its kind – it will enable cities to measure and track progress across key environmental, social and governance areas. It will support cities and governments in attracting investment for essential infrastructure, green energy projects and more. We were thrilled to join finance and municipal leaders at its launch in City of Toronto this month. Thank you to World Council on City Data and Standardized Urban Metrics for your incredible partnership and leadership in this space. https://ow.ly/2KEn50UaY7w

Given the impact our cities have on the environment, both directly and indirectly, it is really exciting to see Arup getting involved in the next phase of The Circular City Centre. This initiative is a collaboration between the EIB and the European Commission and provides free advisory services and support to help European cities on the journey towards a circular economy - hopefully providing lessons we can adopt in the UK. #CircularCities #WeAreArup

Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050 targets decarbonisation of the built environment, with a blueprint for action detailed in a recent Savills and The Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong report. The building and construction sector already has the key tools but faces hurdles that include data transparency and green certification of older buildings. To meet the ambitious goal of cutting emissions by 50% before 2035, we need industry collaboration, better regulations, and incentives, to retrofit existing buildings alongside a commitment to education and sustainable investments. ❔ How can we meet London’s development needs in a low carbon way? Decarbonisation. It’s what everyone is talking about. We brought together developers and supply chain partners in London to discuss how the industry should adapt its approach to fulfil new carbon requirements, while still meeting the capital’s development needs. There were three key takeaways from the group discussion: 1) Consensus A clear direction; having universal, agreed benchmarks will help to focus minds on what good looks like. 2) Behaviour We need to start supply chain conversations earlier; challenge the industry to ask different questions and approach projects in a new way – should we be designing to dismantle? 3) Education Low carbon construction needs a new mindset. A different approach. A factory reset. Early collaboration is key to explore low carbon solutions and why it is more cost-effective in the long run. Carbon reduction and corporate sustainability. Evidence from low-carbon city pilot policy. 👉 The low-carbon city construction exerts a positive influence on corporate ESG performance in pilot regions. 👉 The relationship is heterogeneous across different carbon emission level. 👉 Low-carbon pilot policy has a crowding out effect on the #ESG performance of firms in “peer” cities. 👉 Environmental concerns of the government and the public are the underlying channels. 👉 We provide comprehensive recommendations for policymakers to improve the ESG disclosure system. Given these findings, can we afford to overlook the influence of low-carbon policies on business sustainability and environmental disclosure? https://lnkd.in/eWYpstzW

Great webinar today by World Green Building Council (WGBC) and Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI) on "Taxonomies and Green Buildings: How Far Have We Come?". As someone involved in green building market assessment project and currently working on green taxonomy development project, I found the discussion on building criteria within taxonomies and their impact on sustainable finance particularly insightful. The webinar offered valuable perspectives on the role of taxonomies in driving investment towards green buildings and decarbonization efforts. #GreenBuilding #SustainableFinance #Uzbekistan #Taxonomies #WGBC #CBI Link: https://lnkd.in/dcg6eA5d
