The significant progress made in successfully treating many common cancers is being undermined by the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (#AMR). AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death. #StandUpToCancer is joining World Health Organization and Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to improve awareness and understanding of AMR this #WorldAMRAwarenessWeek. Our DxConnect NTD test directory shows that there are 218 commercially available assays for the following neglected tropical diseases (NTDs): Chagas disease, schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis, visceral leishmaniasis (VL), leprosy, onchocerciasis, and mycetoma. However, although the total number of tests seems high, significant gaps remain in diagnostic accessibility, suitability for low-resource settings, performance, and regulatory approval. For instance, molecular point-of-care tests are available only for VL and leprosy. Our platform also shows huge diagnostic gaps for onchocerciasis and mycetoma. Eurofins Viracor has launched an innovative quantitative PCR assay for the detection of Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi), the parasitic cause of Chagas disease. More than 5 million people worldwide have Chagas disease, according to the World Health Organisation. Chagas disease often goes undiagnosed due to its asymptomatic nature in its early stages, and the limitations of traditional diagnostic methods. This new test from Eurofins Viracor is a crucial tool for the accurate detection of T. cruzi infection, particularly among organ transplant recipients or immunocompromised patients. The launch of this test underscores Eurofins Viracor's commitment to improving diagnostic solutions for underserved conditions such as Chagas disease, and ultimately, patient outcomes. #Eurofins #Chagas #OrganTransplant #TestingForLife #Viracor
