Do not make Procurement a “Bad Cop” ⚠️ As explained many times already, procurement is not there to "police" spendings in the organisation. Our role is to guide and support to ensure that company money is spend effectively and with the right suppliers. 👍 We work with you, not against you. 👍 We belong to the same team, same organisation We all should be mindful of costs and Procurement is not a police, but trusted partner is achieving organisational goals, not as a barrier to success. We are not the “bad” guys in the room... Yes, we can sometimes play the part and take a lead in bringing difficult information to our suppliers. Still, only by working together we are able to deliver more value and ensure every procurement decision supports your strategic objectives. Please share your thoughts and experiences in the comments. #StrategicProcurement #Collaboration #CreatingValue
Well written. Thanks for putting a spotlight on the reality
Better together !
Totally agree 👍🏻. However, those who think procurement bad cops, are reason for this feeling due to the lack in their inputs for the procurement such as insufficient scope of work, incorrect cost estimates, and other incomplete requirements. If they were provided the necessary information and requirements, then procurement process will go smooth. Procurement entities are to help achieve the organization objectives without legal liabilities.
Maybe time blurrs the memories but I do not remember being treated as a bad policeman by internal stakeholders. Maybe by few suppliers...but also by mistake! 😀 I had suppliers who didn't like changing some rules of the game saying something like "your predecessor was not asking us for this" or "we didn't have to do it". It is of utmost importance to let key suppliers understand the context why.
And we don't want to be the bad guys, it depends on the culture company. Ideally, we'd like to be put in our place. Evangelise the stakeholders a little bit, as I told you, we have to take care of the relationships.

2moUnfortunately, we've already been lebeled "BAD". We must prove otherwise.
