The articulation and presentation are commendable. Great advice for those who have been promoted to a leadership position within their current organization. Ultimately, it boils down to the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, which inevitably shift with the assumption of a new role. The challenge lies in balancing existing relationships within this new context, which is why almost 50% of internal promotions are deemed unsuccessful. Clear communication, fairness, and a thoughtful transition plan can help make the transition smoother for everyone involved.

I was in this situation a couple of times; I cannot say that I have a silver bullet but my strategy was to be as authentic and open as possible. You can win the trust from your team by consistently prioritising their development and professional success, and investing your own time to support them. Eye-to-eye communication style, feedback going both ways and transparent shared agenda.

Succinct and insightful article. Many thanks to Tom and Kevin for a very helpful post!
