UK equity markets are at a low ebb, and the plight of smaller companies is even more pronounced, as a new report from think tank New Financial LLP points out. And yet, with the chancellor's focus apparently on fiscal restraint and keeping gilt investors happy, any assistance from the government will have to be, to put it bluntly, cheap. The good news is that there's one change that Rachel Reeves could make which would cost very little and could even pay for itself via increased investment in the longer run.
