🛰️ 🌌 Congratulations to the European Space Agency - ESA and all the teams involved in the final planetary flyby for BepiColombo en route to its final orbit around Mercury! Starion is delighted to have played our part in making this a success through our Planetary Service team at ESA’s European Space Astronomy Centre #ESAC in Spain. Sara de la Fuente Franco, Starion Work Area & Project Manager, said: "I am very proud of the Starion Planetary Service team who have supported the #BepiColombo mission with SPOT Cruise since its launch in 2018, navigating through the near-Earth commissioning phase and an incredible journey of nine flybys – one past Earth, two at Venus and six at Mercury. “With the cruise phase now coming to an end, I’m very happy to see that the final flyby was a success and excited to embark on the next chapter – the Mercury science phase. All the instruments are ready to operate in Mercury’s unique and harsh environment, and we can’t wait to uncover new insights about this unique planet, the nearest to the Sun." #Mercury #ESA #JAXA #SpaceScience #PlanetaryScience #flyby
#BepiColombo: 6th Mercury flyby completed! This morning, the BepiColombo team gathered at ESA's mission control centre at #ESOC to keep a close watch on the spacecraft as it swooped past Mercury for the last time. Soon after, the team received the first pictures of the closest approach to Mercury. Tune in tomorrow for the reveal of the images during ESA's start-of-the-year press briefing!
